I just received the galley (the pre-press, manuscript laid out with images,) for my new book, “Lee Lawrie’s Prairie Deco: History in Stone at the Nebraska State Capitol, 4th Edition.
It tells the story of the little known, 20th century genius/Art Deco architectural sculptor Lee Lawrie, and tells the stories and symbolism behind the SCORES of engaged bas-relief panels of the History of Law, the Nobility of Civilization, History’s great Lawgivers, and literally tons more of limestone carvings. The Capitol also pays tribute to Nebraska’s Native American who first dwelt in the Great American Prairies of Nebraska.
It’ll be out on Amazon.com by Labor Day (God willing and the creek don’t rise.)
This book builds on 2011’s 3rd Edition, but is rearranged, lushly illustrated with more new and archival photos of Lawrie’s work as it developed and was carved, plus another bundle of “goodies:” stories of more of Lawrie’s work I’ve uncovered over the past five years since the last book was published, and its 250 copies sold out.
Yale and Columbia Universities’ Libraries have copies of the 3rd Edition, so maybe you’ll want to get one, too.
If you want to get on the mailing list, send me your email to [email protected]. I promise not to spam you or sell your email addresses.
Also, stay tuned for a new, updated and responsive website www.LeeLawrie.com, that should be up before fall.
Thanks for looking.
