Are archdragons implied to be ordinary dragons who mastered their arcanum?
Yeah there aren't any clear details about this in the show or other materials. If it was answered in an interview I haven't seen it.
I always imagined that any dragon had the potential to become an archdragon if they lived long enough and became powerful enough. Because it seems Zubeia and Avizandum were both archdragons of the sky, which means there can be more than one. People talk about Zym having a destiny of becoming king of the dragons but I don't know how much of that is by birthright or if it's just assumed he will be strong one day because he had a strong father.

Sol Regem is an Asshole
So apparently this guy is a gigantic asshole.
And I wish I was joking about that.
Okay, let's break it down for a moment. Β In the Dragon Prince past, humans...feeling their position being inferior to elves (which I called that one) having trouble surviving because they can't do magic...discover a way to do magic so they could at least show they are not inferior...namely creating Dark Magic...and in response to this the Elves decide to crown this giant gold idiot as the first Dragon King of Xadia.
Sol Regem, this giant asshole.
And let me tell you about how big of an asshole he happens to be. When having a peaceful talk with the wizard in question named Ziard, telling Ziard that Xadia would like it if the humans not use Dark Magic...Ziard expresses concern for his people. Β He basically states that if they give up this power, they will once more return to being second classed citizens in Xadia.
Aka, treated as lesser beings.
To which our present Dragon King Sol Regem then retorts: "You are lesser beings!"
This guy is a gigantic asshole.
Don't worry, folks, the assholery goes further. Β Upon asking about his safety and the safety of his people, Ziard asked about their agreement for having the meeting. Sol Regem then says: "Sure, you're allowed to go free, but that city of like a thousand people...what's it called...Elarium? Β Yeah, I'm gonna burn that because you poached a few innocent bugs to create your dark magic."
Ziard: "Wait, what?"
And off Sol Regem goes. Β But not before Ziard rightfully tries to stop him, and gets incinerated for it. Β Because how dare he stop someone from burning a town of innocence because he went and squashed a few magical bugs to create a rain storm to make the crops plentiful.
Well, Sol Regem doesn't leave unscathed, he does get blinded I suspect in one eye by Ziard before the poor guy died. Β And Sol Regem still flew off to burn a town of innocents.
But not before Aaravos comes in and saves a few people. Β Which I suspect is the reason why Aaravos got put in that mirror. Β Because how dare you save innocent people from the slaughter, you naughty, naughty elf!
And Sol Regem is the guy that Callum, Rayla, and Zym have to pass to get to Xadia?
Yeah, good luck with that.
Also, can I please turn Callum into a Sky Archdragon for shitz and giggles?
Dark souls 3 did a Tribute to Kalameet in the Archdragon Peak. While the statue looks amazing I wanted to do a version where you can see the face with a third eye that is more in line with the original design.
