I've become obsessed with the Arcane Fish People
Does their race have a legitimate name? Like are they a type of aquatic/sea-Vastaya, or Fish Folk, or something else entirely? What lore do they have about their culture?
Call me reverse-Ariel because I wanna know more about their world!
I had an idea for claggor with a reader who is basically Gordon Ramsey. LMAO, I mean, she's like a 5 star michelin chef/baker type. She can make delicious meals out of scratch and cheap ingredients (maybe she works with Jericho, and that's how they met ???👀) your claggor work is so amazing. I'd love to see what you do with this!!
arcane imagines- claggor
my personal chef

prompt: Claggor is helping you set up yours and Jericho’s new restaurant
“Clag, help!” You grit through your teeth as you were on a ladder, trying to hold up a heavy box that was slipping off of the shelf. “Babe!” You cry, his head pops up from underneath the counter as he was currently trying to fix an electrical problem. But seeing you in distress he automatically rushes to your side.
Chapter 2 of A Stray comes in art form!
Arcane Background characters of Zaun concept art part 4 and unused character concepts.

This might be the single most epic thing I've yet seen, and cracked me up endlessly.
Thank you so much @lipsticksandmolotovs <3
Forward but Never Forget/XOXO
Do you think Steb is mute, or just quiet? I headcanon him as having selective mutism, but I know that's not something everyone is on board with and I got curious
I don't really know tbh—at the very least, he is not completely mute. We hear him shout words while the war is going on, so he does have the ability to speak. The thing is, he doesn't speak a lot.
Whether this is because he's a background character (Loris barely had any lines either yet no one hearcanons him with anything speech related) or whether it's his biology or preference or what
No one can say for certain
Personally, I think he can speak decently. He just doesn't choose to speak. His words were shouted quite cleanly. Maybe a little strained but it could be because of him being in a warzone—orrrr
I wonder if he has issues with speaking biologically because other merfolk have been seen with no lines. Jericho was seen with no intent of speaking human language. In the scene he's in with making Vi food, I could hear him make some garbling noises. I rewatched the scene he's in and it's not just some reaction noise. He makes the noise as he's handing Vi the piece of paper. It means something I think
Seeing the scene again, I wonder why Jericho doesn't speak human language. Lest is nonhuman but she speaks the same language as Mel just fine.
I'm gonna choose to believe that merfolk in general tend to speak their own language. Their vocal cords may be different from humans so they end up speaking their own language. I'm also gonna choose to believe that the undercity is different than topside in the sense that they don't care if you don't speak the same language. The types / species of people there are so vast that they're used to those who don't speak the same language.
I actually imagined this being the case with my baby girl Catalina. I've imagined her in school being taught how to read and taught what words mean what but not being forced to speak because people are used to those who can't / won't speak English.
Like they'd teach her like normal, letting her hear how other people say stuff ("a is for apple, a a apple" type of stuff in class) but her not speaking is to be expected since she's not human.
It's actually a plot point where Jose believes that Catalina could not speak because she's a child of a human and a Chirean despite Scar being perfectly able to speak when in reality she's just selectively mute and doesn't like speaking.
For a big part of her childhood she doesn't speak at all unless something big happens. Even then, she might only say a word or two. That's it.
Anyway
Back to Steb
Jericho, and other merfolk, look different than Steb. People say Steb looks more human and that's what I think allows him to speak human language. His vocal cords could be different enough to let him speak the same way humans do. People say that Vastaya can alter their biology to look more human? If that's the case then Steb could have adapted to his environment and grew up being able to speak like most other topsiders.
But I feel like he may get tired of saying a lot of words at once? Idk I am torn between thinking he doesn't like speaking or if he can't speak
I switch from thinking he just doesn't care about speaking much to it being a biological thing. The way he shouted the words so clearly makes me think he had to have spoken for a long enough time to know how to say those words like that, but in other instances where he could speak, he doesn't.
When Maddie spoke during the carriage scene after the invaded speech, Steb didn't speak. He just grunted. It seems like he doesn't speak unless it's really important or in other special instances.
I guess you could consider that selectively mute?
He might deal with biological issues or is just less inclined to human speech because his species prefers merfolk language. I just think he doesn't care for speaking much.
I've actually made a family for him who doesn't speak much. His mother doesn't speak human language and, while his father is human, his father doesn't force Steb to speak English (just has him learn it) resulting in Steb growing up not speaking much. He'd speak while learning words but otherwise he took after his mother and ended up preferring non verbal communication.
I'm imagining Steb knowing / learning sign language but I don't think his mother would have known it. Merfolk have their own way of communicating so I feel like she wouldn't have grown up having to learn it since her father / Steb's grandpa had his own way of communicating nonverbally when need be.
I might have to think of how she went about in class because I had her go to a medical school in topside.
Anyway
Tldr;
I generally headcanon Steb doesn't care to speak for his own reasons (preferring nonverbal communication). You could consider that selectively mute. I think his species has different vocal cords that make them prefer their own language, but I don't headcanon Steb to really have an issue speaking from a biological standpoint.
I just really think he prefers not to speak.
Make of that what you will lol
