If the rest of Future's upcoming Honest album is as good as the "Move That Dope" single, we have a lot to look forward to. This week he dropped the official video for the track, which is a little boring compared to how otherworldly the song itself is. Despite the vivid imagery evoked by the beat, the video is standard fare - video hoes, the team posted in a Jeep, and Future in some Catching Fire-type high fashion shyt (OK, so that one's not exactly trite).
Produced by Mike Will, said beat is full of alien synths squeezing out strange melodies, gully basslines, and hype sound effects. It's undeniably indebted to mid-90s Company Flow production by Mr. Len. But that sound never really went anywhere beyond the Funcrusher album, so hearing updated lyrics over the style is welcome. Nearly 10 years later and it's still futuristic.
Future's dope boy hook adds to the dark suspense. He balances it out in his verse with a playful flow detailing trap stories buried in cartoonish language. Pusha and Casino's more straight forward coke references round the story out. Â Â
Pharrell's part takes on an early Twista-styled stutter-stop, rapid-fire flow, and it's a refreshing break since no one really uses that style any more either - including the big homie Twista himself. Despite bodying his verse, Skateboard P's Arby's hat ruins the mood of the video, and is more in line with his insufferably upbeat new album GIRL. But he gets it in on this track for sure.
YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD MAKE ME HAPPY? IF YOU WOULD BURN THAT ARBYS HAT
