Wellesley…..the country estate of the Hunnewell Family….Wellesley Massachusetts….perhaps the best preserved of the private botanical gardens in the United States. Starting in the 1840s the family planted rare specimen trees and grew tender exotics in the conservatory. Many of the trees were planted from seeds that were brought back by plant explorers from the Arnold Arboretum starting in the 1880s. Among the first dawn redwoods were planted here. STS Favorite Arboretums?
We got this ask from swedishivy, and I tried to answer it, but instead deleted. Â Tumblr, you always make me feel like an old person.
In any case, this is a great question! Â Arboretums are one of our favorite ways to make time for nature without driving to a park or some more remote location. Â I'll list just a few of our favorite arboretums and gardens! Â We are big fans of the UC Davis Arb (obvi), the University of Kentucky Arboretum and State Botanical Garden, The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, The Arboretum at Penn State, the Portland International Rose Test Garden, and the Chicago Botanical Gardens! Â
Perhaps by favorite, I actually meant to say, "Ones we have visited." Â So, add to the list! Â What's your favorite arbo or local garden?
