TW: ARACHNOPHOBIA // ENTOMOPHOBIA
A little concept design I had thought about recently. I don't plan on making this a big project. -just thought I'd doodle it while I was struggling with art block for my other big au projects.
Concept: Percy becoming the default spider slayer for not just Annabeth but the entire Athena cabin. Because typically when a child feels scared the first person they turn to is a parent or older sibling, but when there's no parent around and all of your older siblings are also deathly afraid, your oldest sister's boyfriend is the next best option. It would start with Percy just dealing with a spider here and there because Annabeth is freaked out, and then there's a few incidents where one gets into the cabin and he plays hero to all of her siblings as well as her. But then there are other incidents. Like Annabeth isn't at camp for some reason and Malcom comes to Percy - trying very hard not to shake from fear because he's the 2IC and needs to be a strong leader - and asks for minor assistance on behalf of the younger kids. And similar such occurrences where another Athena kid asks him to save them begin repeating, no matter if Annabeth knows about the spider or not. And before you know it one of the youngest Athena kids comes across a spider in the strawberry field one day, and their very first instinct is to scream for Percy to help, because he's just the one who always kills all the spiders for them!
The Blackhand Spider (Titanidiops sublectus) has adapted to living in human dwellings by building its burrow under our beds and furniture.
After growing to its mature size, it finds a suitable burrow where it waits up to several months. It strikes when prey gets a hand or ankle too close, injecting a powerful paralyzing venom and releasing its young to feed on the victim while still alive.

I remembered i sent two asks.... but then you posted that "some anons are being very stupid" and got nervous to speak more :(( but i think i was just being paranoid lolol
For the drider sanctuary, does tarantulas count? They're very expressive at times and they're so fuzzy :33!!
While they can't make a lot of intricate webs like other driders in the sanctuary, they can hunt very well! Just you wait and see— they'll have a pile of offerings for you by the end of the day >:3! One of the smaller tarantulas has gotten over his anxiety and built up the courage to bring the prey still stuck in his mandible to you! Won't you spare him a glance? You're not so mean as to reject the little one, right?
- non-freaky-anon (did I really send two asks? Or was one of them non-anonymous? Lmk!! I forgot about everything nowadays :(( )
When I say anons are being stupid, it's when they send hate and think I'll respond or take it serious. You could send something a hundred times and as long as it isn't vapid, mean, and unhelpful then I don't mind at all :3 there's no worries, you've done nothing wrong! <3
I love to think Tarantulas count. They're more hands on, and have to have massive enclosures all to themselves, AND, they need more socialization than other species. They get sad when their favorites don't stop by to say hello and see what they're up too. oooh you know how apparently some tarantulas and spiders keep frogs as "pets"? Maybe there's something similar where you can be hired as their designated caregiver or companion so they can heal, have comfort, or simply thrive all the better.
I love picturing that little tarantula bringing you offerings, just happily trotting along and humming a little tune while looking for you, hoping you'll like it. He worked hard! He's little so it takes a lot of work to get something this big! Please like it :c

Ok
This one is a hot take on which Spiders the apprendices would be if they were real world spiders
Albina would be either a Brazilian Jewel Tarantula ( Typhochlaena seladonia )
Or a Peacock Spider ( Maratus )
Ren would be a Brazilian Blue/Iridescent Blue/Sazima's Spider ( Lasiocyano sazimai )
Kira would be a Brazilian Salmon Pink Bird-Eating Spider/Salmon Pink/LP ( Lasiodora parahybana )
^^^ If this shit is pink, I'm Lowered VW Beetle that shoots lasers from its eyes. This is clearly Purple
Lucio would be a Blacktailed Red Sheetweaver/Red Grass Spider ( Florinda coccinea )
Sora would be a Brazilian Blue Dwarf Beauty Tarantula ( Dolichothele diamantinensis )
Don't most of them being Brazilian spiders (It's not favoritism bcs I'm Brazilian (even though I am proud)), Brazil is just the country with most biodiversity and it ends up having a lot of spiders due to it.
Most of them are at risk of extinction, specially the Brazilian Jewel because of it's color and it lives in the treetops of tall trees and the biome (the Atlantic Forest, which is located in the Southeast region of Brazil) they live is almost completely extinct to the point that the government made strict laws over it's trees and animals to safeguard them.
Btw, these are my hot takes on the apprendices as irl spiders.
