Brief History: So the Johnson family history is pretty straightforward, Theodore was traveling to Egypt and met Fukayna while there. He fell for her immediately and tried to woo her and for a time she was dismissive of him until one moment as she was reading her fortune she realized she could use him for her goals, the two eventually getting together as Theodore slowly won her over.

Now, winning her over at first felt nice but Fukayna was very possessive and her study of the occult and the supernatural bothered Theodore the two often fighting as they had preconceived notions of their roles; Theodore wanted Fukayna to be a mother and wife while Fukayna wanted Theodore to want more from his life. The dysfunction would continue and reach a head when Fukayna decided to return to Egypt trying to leave while pregnant with Mara.

Theodore stopped her and with time got custody of their daughter but the dysfunction kept going. As Theodore and Fukayna both treated their daughter as a chore or mandatory thing than someone they wanted to know and love.

Relationship with Child:

Of the parents, Theodore loved Mara the most but the love wasn't as strong as the older Mara got the less enthused he got being a single parent and he would go through a string of marriages just to try and find someone to help raising her. It wasn’t that he didn't like Mara he just…. He got tired of raising her, and this selfishness would manifest as distance and neglect that Mara felt, especially when he'd hunt for this new "stepmother" to help raise her.

Fukayna, on the other hand, was very cold and judgmental from the get-go, trying to raise her daughter to be into witchery and seeing their daughter have high potential and expectations they needed to push her to. Fukayna was a very unusual and downright cruel mother as she was hard on her but never showed her any warmth or comfort, often wanting their daughter to teach her things but not exactly caring about Mara's wants.

Siblings Dynamic:

Now, because Theodore got around, Mara/ArachNyx DOES have siblings, but they're all very distant, and some are too young for her to even talk to. She tried to be there for the first few, but it was hard because even if it wasn't their fault, Mara partly resented them for their mothers and them taking her father's attention from her. 

Before: Before Mara's "death," both parents took Mara's presence in their lives for granted and didn't exactly care if she was around. They were parents to her but in a very distant way often, leaving her feeling unloved or acting out because of it.
