she has never been good at lying to them. they’re her best friend-- the only one who could keep up, with all of her madness. the only one who doesn’t mind that she keeps hours like a bat-- that she’s almost obscenely cheery in the morning because she hasn’t slept yet. the only one who knows about the occasional nightmares, the occasional way, sometimes darkness bled into her mood. the only one who stayed up with her-- the only one who stayed. she cannot risk that-- she will not risk it. she tries to ignore the way--lately her heart seems to beat out an irregular rhythm when they’re next to her. she tries to ignore the hunger that knaws at her chest-- asking for more. there wasn’t supposed to be more-- and she keeps praying it will go away. all this unrestrained desire. she needs it to go away.
but they won’t let it go-- they tease her. they flirt-- they make it impossible to ignore that she wants them. make it impossible for this--energy to be temporary. “i can’t do it-- i won’t--” and it’s a familiar fight, but this time the fire between them seems like it’s sparking out of control. she looks up at them, a stubborn curve to her lips. “i’m not going to risk our friendship for hormones-- it’s temporary-- you’ll find someone new to fuck next week-- what-- is the point in ruining the friendship just so you can get off-- huh?” she doesn’t tell them-- that she doesn’t want them just as badly, because it’d be a lie.
