8/17/2020 Update

Summer Vacation is almost over, but progress still rolls along. We’ve gotten quite a few things done this month!

Backgrounds:

We’ve completed a few more backgrounds that will be shown in the final version of the game! We can’t show any previews of them for spoiler reasons, but we can gladly show this re-do of Skylar’s garden!

Since Skylar’s garden was one of the first backgrounds made for the game, it was due for an update to better fit the quality of the remaining backgrounds. Before it looked more like a field, this looks more like a garden they would be proud of!

P.O.V. Swap Sprites:

To help with the immersion of the P.O.V. swap sequences, we’ve programmed all the LIs to have their own corner sprite and now Alice has her own full body sprite that will be used as well!

While the scenes worked as they are in the current version of the demo, we quickly realized that the format would not work for future P.O.V. swap sequences. With this format, we will have more flexibility with how the scenes are presented and hope you look forward to unlocking those special scenes!

Bonus Menu Addition:

As some of you may have seen, we have a few pages in the bonus menu that cannot be accessed in the demo. One of these is the “extras” page, which has now been completed!

In this screen, you will be able to play through all the endings you’ve unlocked as well as playing through special bonus scenes that can only be seen once you’ve unlocked certain endings!

Another exciting thing we have in the works is an opening movie for the game! We’ve been going back and forth on whether or not we wanting Alice’s Reverie to have one, but now we can say that it will have one for sure!

Since we’re working on this alongside the game, it may take a while before it is completed. However, once it is done, we will be posting it for you to see on the game’s itch.io page as well as on our social media!

It’s been a busy month full of working towards some exciting aspects of the game, and we hope you look forward to each and every one of them!

A look at the bonus page! The only screen left for us to make is the gallery page, which means that the GUI is almost complete!

On another good note, Skylar, Lulu, and Morrigan’s route are all 100% coded into the game! This puts the coding at a whopping 80% complete, which means the demo patch is almost done!

Since we are so close to completion, we’ll be posting more frequent updates this week since we don’t think weekly updates come fast enough with all the new progress we’re making. Although, our next official weekly update will be coming on this Saturday instead of Monday as we’ll be participating in the Dec 17th tumblr boycott.

12/4/2018 Update

It’s the final month of the year, and the demo patch completion is closer than it ever was before.

Skylar’s Route is 100% Written:

We were able to chip away at one more patch route within this last week, which is super exciting to us! And with the other ones being fully planned out, the writing will be completely done very, very soon!

Choice Selection Notification Animation:

This week was filled with some experimentation and trying things out on Alice’s Reverie that we weren’t sure we would be able to pull off since it is our first game, but we were able to pull off something we especially wanted to try. When you play the new demo, choices will now be followed by an animation of a beating heart (large for “right” answers, and grey for wrong ones). We want Alice’s Reverie to be a game where it’s easy to get the good endings, but we also wanted to make sure it was easy to access the bad ends as well.

Route Completion Notification:

Another new addition to the features of the game is now that when you complete each characters’ route, there will be an icon that lets you know. Once you complete all 6 main character’s routes, you will be able to access Morrigan’s route. Obviously, this will play a bigger part in the full version of the game, but we’re letting you get a taste of this feature in the demo.

General Cleanup:

Aside from the fancy stuff we’ve of course been cleaning up some minor programming things like transitions from screen to screen and some fancy camera stuff so that everything is ready to just plop the new lines of dialogue in.

Personal Update:

11/5/2018 Update

November has just begun, and we have some exciting news to bring to you for this month’s update!

CG Completion:

It took us a little while, but we finally reached 100% completion for the demo patch’s CGs! That’s a whopping 12 more CGs than the current demo if you’re curious! This means for us that we can focus entirely on writing the new scenes and bringing out the demo patch without art assets being in the way (except for a few new backgrounds and the extras page, but that’s a different story.)

New choice buttons:

One of the things that we wanted to make sure to get done was making new choice buttons, and now that neither of us is swamped with homework, we finally were able to get around to it! The choice buttons in the current demo are actually ones from our tester game (fun fact), and changing them before the demo’s initial release escaped our minds. You can see what the new button look like above.

Demo Patch is Live!

After 3 month's, we are happy to announce that the final demo patch is here! Whether or not you have played the original version of the demo, we highly recommend that you download this version. Once again, here is what this patch includes that was not in the old version:

12k+ more words than the old version

At least 3 more hours of gameplay

Revised scenes for every character (including some that were extended and/or completely changed)

New beginning dialogue choices for the beginning of every route

2 new scenes per route

13 more CGs

Re-shading on the original 8 CGs

Completed GUI including the new preferences screen, new choice buttons, bonus page, and gallery

Transition screens

New zoom sprites for all the love interests

Alongside the patch, we are also opening up Ko-Fi donations (more about that here)

We're super excited to finally release this patch to all of you, and are excited for you all to play it!

10/1/2018 Update

As we head into October, progress has slow but steady. Along with finalizing and coding in a route selection screen to be included in the full game as well as the demo patch, we’ve chipped away at some of the bonus scenes and CGs. You can see a preview of the new screen and a snippet of one CG above.

We also plan on providing you progress charts for the demo patch along with the one for the full game each month until the patch is released. Although, we are focusing on finishing the patch first, so the full game progress is for comparison purposes. Aside from the information provided by the charts, there are still a few more screens to be added and/or improved for the GUI as well as 6 more backgrounds left to be made for the patch specifically.

As always, we will give you another big update next month along with smaller, weekly updates. All your questions/comments/feedback keeps our spirits high as we work alongside our college studies ♥

Hello everyone, we’d like your feedback!

We’re getting to a point in development that almost everything from the demo has almost completely changed (with the zoom sprites, the addition of transition screens, and more text cleanup). 

What we want to know is if you, the players, would be interested in one final demo patch in the near future that will include these new things along with the first bad end, a bonus scene for each route, and the finalized GUI.
