Yo, what if the spells that Farhana taught Link when he was a kid were actually the magic spells you get in Ocarina of Time? He's not particularly fond of using Din's Fire though because 1. His studies in fire magic are limited so it's not very powerful (and might actually backfire and burn him) but mainly 2. IT'S DESTRUCTIVE AS HECK AND LINK ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR RUINING NATURE!
I actually see those more as beginner spells taught at the Magic Academy. I can picture Link having an argument with a professor, “No I’m not going to burn those plants with Din’s Fire. The plants haven’t done anything to me. Did you know three major fires are started in forests every year because of this spell?” And the professor is at his wit’s end with this kid, like just cast the spell so I can pass you.
I imagined the spells Farore/Farhana teaches Link to be like nursery rhymes to him. Link doesn’t know what they mean or that the language is Ancient Hylian, but they remind him of his mother, and he just says them when he misses her or wants to pray. Link only realizes they’re spells when Zelda asks him why he’s chanting in Ancient Hylian.
“I’m speaking Ancient Hylian?”
“I’ve spent years studying Ancient Hylian; you think I don’t recognize it when it’s spoken?”
Then there’s the whole conversation of how are you casting a spell without ingredients. I mean, words alone don’t make a spell, otherwise everyone would be a mage. And this gets them one step closer to figuring out Link’s a demigod, since it’s his divine blood that gives him the power to cast spells using Ancient Hylian words alone.
