Hi! I was wondering if you knew anything about bee flies? Are they common in North America, especially the southeast? I think I've been seeing them lately, they look like fluffy mosquitos, but I don't remember seeing them in my area up until the past couple of years. In fact, I remember the first time I saw one in my yard, I thought it was some mutated bumblebee lol. I was just wondering if they've always been common to the area, or if it's possible that they're new??

They are fairly ubiquitous throughout the U.S., becoming more scarce further north into Canada. In New Hampshire Iâve never seen the super fuzzy ones (thereâs plenty of bombyliids that are not fuzzy though) but I think thatâs a matter of me not being in the right habitat enough (looking on bugguide, NH is the only state without sightings of that subfamily, but the UNH Insect Collection has them represented here). I saw one in Maine once though, in a grassland sandplain, so Iâm sure theyâre around. In general theyâre most speciose in the southwest, as many insects are, and theyâre super abundant in Florida as well. In the southeast, genera like Systoechus and Bombylius are common and are found from early spring through fall. Theyâre mostly ectoparasitoids of soil-dwelling insect larvae, which explains why arid environments with more sandy and bare ground area would be beneficial to them! Iâd like to think theyâre pollinators, with that fuzzy body, but seeing as they hold their body so far from the flower with those long legs, they likely donât actually get much pollen on them most of the time. Still, flowers are the best place to find them!

Iâve been thinking about this, and maybe Iâll have more actual headcanons once Iâm done with my rewatch, but for now the one conviction I keep coming back to is that Goodsir is fine, heâs fine, heâs alive and well, Silna rescued him from the mutineers before he had to do anything to Gibson and heâs adapted to life in the Arctic now, filling his days with research on the local flora and fauna and heâs doing just fine. Thatâs the AU I currently choose to reside in.

I donât think that I have⌠although thereâs this book that I read in elementary school called Nick In Time (by Ted Bell) that came to mind, I guess because I feel like itâs written in a style thatâs similar to how I think? but idk really lol
4. do you like your name? Â is there another name you think would fit you better?
When I was a kid, I went through a whole phase of trying to figure out how I felt about my name⌠eventually I realized that I really do like it, actually, although sometimes I wish it was a little less plain. I canât imagine being called anything other than Emma though.
Fun fact: I wrote my college entrance essay about this!Â
6. are you religious/spiritual?
I am not at all religious, but I recently went to a Catholic funeral mass and was left feeling very out of place, because my brother and I were the only people there who werenât raised in the Catholic tradition. I donât think my beliefs about religion would be different if I had been raised Catholic, but sometimes I wish I was just so I could participate in that tradition⌠does that make sense?
That being said, I do believe very strongly in the idea that everything happens for a reason⌠Iâm not sure that I would call it fate, and Iâve tried typing it out to explain like 3 different times but I canât figure out how to describe it. I think that every decision we make has a very linear path and once weâve started on that path, thereâs something totally outside of our control that continues it.Â
8. what musical artists have you most felt connected to over your lifetime?
My dad (like all good British dads) introduced me to the Beatles at a very young age, and I love them. But my favorite band is probably Coldplay; thereâs something very simple and yet poetic about their lyrics, and their music is just lovely.Â
Also when I was a kid, my aunt/godmother would play the Dixie Chicks whenever I was in the car with her, so now they remind me of road trips and childhood :â)Â
10. do you have a creed?

12. dog person or cat person?
AUUGGGHH I hate this question, why do I have to pick?? I love them both, animals are just great. I have always really wanted a cat but couldnât have one, so if you forced me to pick at gunpoint I guess I would say dogs. đśđž

Not really, but I love to sing!Â
16. if youâd grown up in a different environment, do you think youâd have turned out the same?
Ooh this is such an interesting question. Certainly I think if my dad hadnât come to America, I would have had a very different experience growing upâ either here with two American parents, or there with two British parents, both of which would be pretty different from the family I grew up in. I consider myself American, but having one parent who isnât American definitely impacted my personality a lot.
As for the environment I grew up in, I think living in Seattle had a very strong influence on me as a teenager, and growing up anywhere else definitely would have made me a different person. I will love Seattle and it will be a part of me until the day I die. #WestCoastBestCoast
18. whatâs your patronus?
according to Pottermore itâs like a beagle or something, and @athenasdragon agreed that I might be some kind of dog, maybe a Lab? Or maybe a horse? but idk really, if thereâs something that you think suits me, lmk!
20. would you rather be in Middle Earth, Narnia, Hogwarts, or somewhere else?
LITERALLY THIS QUESTION IS THE WORST, WHY WOULD YOU. I love all 3 of those places so much, how do I choose??
Hogwarts seems like it would be the most comfortable + enjoyable to live in long-term, and Narnia would be amazing, but ultimately I think Iâd choose to visit Middle-Earth, because I love Tolkien so much and because it would be fascinating + different + probably really interesting culturally.Â
(also I nominate Camp Half-Blood to be on this list bc I always wanted to go there when I read those books? it sounds like the COOLEST SUMMER CAMP EVER)

She had an enormous influence on me as a person; she taught me so much and passed on so many of her values + beliefs, she supported me & gave the best advice and offered me so much, and was basically like the big sister I never had⌠a lot of the person Iâve become as an adult(?) came from her.Â

Iâve always identified as female, and Iâm pretty sure that Iâm straight?? ¯\_(ă)_/ÂŻ Â
