I have words, but there are too many. Still, I kind of hope to offer an explanation for time lapses. :c
Isla is @artisticallyvexingâs fan apprentice. Wren and Yuet are @asra-memelordâs apprentices.Â
Zaro is @zaro-zairelâs apprentice and very dear to my heart. / w \
Well over a year ago I had a list of apprentices I wanted to draw for the arcana. These should have been done w a y before now--- but I lost a lot of motivation in heaps since the start of 2018.Â
My last bit of progress with the apprentice list I had for this request post was something I made in early 2018. Then I sketched pieces throughout February. It wasnât until May that I got into the mood (and had time because of summer break) to do the art digitally. But none of the things looked satisfying to me, so I scrapped a lot of works to start over. The summer and fall/winter period was busy for me with a lot of unforeseen personal and familial challenges and events that affected me. I wasnât ready for a lot of what happened and I really donât think that I have come to terms with a lot. Or even processed it.
I am sorry for the unreasonably long and pretty much explanation-less wait I made people experience. I think I should have made a more direct, explicit post stating that these things would be on hold for an indefinite amount of time, or something at least. A major problem/mistake I made when taking these on was the amount of requests I got and then me overestimating how much energy I would have to follow through with them all.Â
Since then, I hope that my art has at least improved some. Iâd like to try and continue making progress with this list. I know very well that since the time I made it, some people could have moved on because a lot of things happened since then. Even so, I hope that I can still just like, I gain more experience from drawing apprentices that are not my own, you know?Â
I think I will tag the names of the OC creators as I wrote them in my list and hope for the best I suppose? But yea, thatâs what I have to say about this matter.Â

Inspiration here and here ;D Ross belongs to @pongodoodle, always.
Ross fell to their knees, feeling the entire weight of the world crushing them in their room in the shop they shared with Isla and Asra.Â
They felt so weak and were grateful nobody was around to witness their mess of tears and explosive sadness. Ross couldnât even imagine how much shame and embarrassment they would feel with someone witnessing them cry.Â
A sob erupted from their body and they pulled themselves in a tighter ball, closing their eyes. Why was everything so difficult? Why were emotions a thing?Â
It was quiet, there wasnât any other sounds around them while they cried. They werenât sure whether that was good or bad.
âRoss? Are you okay?â Islaâs voice called from the doorway.Â
Shit. Ross couldnât bear to glance at her, to see her grayish blue eyes filled with concern for them. Frustrated, Ross tried to recall if they heard any sign of her coming, but couldnât.
âIâm f-fine,â they huffed. They werenât, but anything was better than letting someone in. Ross didnât want anyoneâs help - they were already too much of a mess as it was.
currently, iâm editing comics for The Arcana Fandub with the three apprentices mentioned above, so I woke up with them my mind today, and was like: what would happen if these four cuties who i would die for did something together and got into trouble? hence what happened:
Ross belongs to @pongodoodleâ; Izzy belongs to @metazensaeâ; Halla belongs to @linaisbluepancakeâ; Isla belongs to me ^-^
"This is a terrible idea,â Isla shook her head, her blue eyes reflecting brightly in the small sliver of light behind them as the four apprentices stood in front of the hallway.
âThatâs why we should do it,â replied Ross nonchalantly with a smile, crossing their arms. Adventure was their middle name.
âWell, if anything - weâll at least learn more about whatever craziness is going on here,â Izzy bit their lip nervously as they tapping their foot doubtfully.
âWeâll be fine, guys,â Halla said optimistically. âWe have each other, thatâs all that matters. Besides, weâre gathered here because we want to protect the ones who sent us, right?â
This quieted the apprentices briefly. A purple haired Countess appeared in Hallaâs mind and she smiled to herself automatically. Izzy glanced down with a grin as they thought of the wine loving consul they had buzzing in their thoughts. Rossâs mind went to the masochistic troublemaker they went everywhere with; a side of their mouth quirked up in amusement. Only thinking of what had followed after the elusive magician told her about the mission, Isla blushed a bright pink.Â
âY-yep,â she agreed. Ross raised their eyebrows, but didnât question her red cheeks.
âOoooh~â Izzy, unlike Ross, wiggled their eyebrows playfully and slyly grinned. âDid you do something naughty, Isla?â Halla laughed at this, a sparkle in her eyes, the sound of it sweet and infectious.
The heat in Islaâs cheeks only rose even more. âH-hey, itâs not like you guys donât do things with your significant others!â she protested. âWe should focus on the task at hand.â
A contemplative silence fell over the four, as they thought of what lie ahead - certainly, it wasnât something to be desired. Something was eerily haunting the palace, the apprentices' lives, and Vesuvia itself. They had to find it - or perhaps be doomed.
âCome on,â Izzy said, their amber eyes shining determinedly, âIâll lead. Letâs get this over with.â
âIâll bring up the back,â answered Ross. Halla smiled reassuringly at Isla before the two girls followed Izzy, Ross on their heels.
âWow, the air is almost as tense as when we first met,â commented Halla. Izzy broke their letâs-do-this composure and laughed while Isla ducked her head; All four of them agreed to meet at Rossâs place when they had been first informed of the mission - it was the most convenient for everyone. Isla and Izzy thought it would be a nice idea if they baked something quick for the four to share, only to make a huge mess in the oven, as they had placed Islaâs sweet potatoes in the oven without pricking them first. Naturally, the potatoes exploded.
âIâm sorry again, Ross,â apologized Isla with a tiny laugh. âI donât really cook or bake.â
âNeither do I,â Izzy added, grinning. Ross ran their fingers through their hair, remembering how incredibly surprised and irked they were when they found the cooking catastrophe; it wasnât too bad though, all of the apprentices helped clean up afterward. Isla and Izzy apologized profusely afterward, Halla cheerfully happy with the apprenticesâ bonding - despite the situation, and Ross somewhat annoyed yet a tiny smidge amused.
âDonât worry about it.â
âAre you guys worried?â Halla inquired. A tiny portion of her was antsy, but a larger part of her was determined to protect the Countess she adored.
âNah - we have a good balance of magic between us.â Ross commented.
Halla did have to agree with that - her magic was mostly focused around healing and illusion, which was the opposite of Izzy, who used necromancy, blood magic, and hexes. Islaâs and Rossâs went more hand and hand - Ross was the master of divination, as they used runes, tea leaves to read the future, practiced chriomancy while Islaâs specialty was reading the stars for the future as well as producing stars of energy for battle purposes.
The air seemed to grow thicker and thicker, as if it trying to choke the four apprentices in the dark hallway while their footsteps echoed mysteriously as they tredded carefully. Izzy anxiously glanced left and right in a quiet rhythm while Halla and Isla automatically clung to one another. Even Ross who normally was unshakable, looked unease. Nervously, the four apprentices kept their eyes peeled open, on the look out for anything that could attack them. It was beginning to be hard to see, so Isla silently formed small stars of light that twinkled like fireflies on a summer's night around the group.
Cobwebs were hanging left and right, the intricate thin lines of string reminding Isla of how fragile the apprentices were - given the wrong moment in time where one wasn't paying attention, one had their back turned, or even one was blinking could be a move that would send them to their death.
"The only thing lacking here is the creepy music before something gets us," Izzy whispered.
"Umm, if I had the power to turn back time, I'd go back and not do this," Isla said, clearly frightened. "I'd rather not die today."
"You won't die alone, you'll have us." Halla murmured softly. "Whoever - or whatever - is out there, it can't kill one of us without killing all of us."
Suddenly, a willowy noise erupted from the far end of the corridor, startling the apprentices. It was a sound of pure horror - as if something completely inhumane was in agony. Before covering her mouth, Isla uttered a small scream while Halla jumped out of her skin, trembling. Ross balled their hands into fists as Izzy bounced back in alarm into the other apprentices, knocking them into the floor accidentally.
A goat with vivid red eyes appeared before the apprentices on the ground - its horns were tall and its transparent fur snow white. Towering over them, it glared and growled viciously while each of the apprentices shrank back.
âIâve been waiting for you to come for me, foolish apprentices.â
I really need to get out of this terrible writerâs block Iâve been having for like...a month [scrunches my face] XD so hereâs probably a series of short drabbles coming upÂ
@pongodoodle âs Ross and my Isla live together in the high school au Iâm semi working on, so thatâs where this idea came from
Isla watched the bloom of the cream in her own coffee and smiled half to herself. Turning around carefully with two cups in her hands, her blue eyes landed on her one and only flatmate - Ross, who was rubbing their eyes sleepily.
âGood morning sleepyhead.â The corners of the dark haired apprenticeâs mouth curled up in amusement.
âNgh,â was the response she received from the taller apprentice; they were more exhausted than usual.
âShouldâve not drank a bunch of bottles of absinthe last night,â tutted Isla. âEspecially since it was a school night.â
âGetting an A on a test is worth drinking for,â Ross protested, taking the coffee.
âBy the way, Iâm not sure what weâre taking for lunch today, but I made honey cookies last night.â She knew those types of sweets were their favorite.

This is for @dreamyarcana, I was your Secret Santa! I figured Iâd end up posting this on the Epiphany. While eating the Gobstopper Hearts candy I bought, I finally just decided to go over 9000 on the pink/red/cute af aesthetic I had from my lines and flat colors. Isla is a sweet-as-candy apprentice, and I was very excited to draw her and Asra just enjoying each otherâs company. Iâm pretty stoked by how many of the gifts this year featured Asra getting all the love from our fan apprentices, it was like an overflowing cup of hot chocolate in my holiday season. Silver, I hope you enjoy this, and Thank You for being such a fantastic person here on tumblr and discord! Happy Holidays!
Thanks @mosaic-marquise for the ref of Isla, I really liked that one so I decided to use it (especially the color scheme, clearly). Eternal thanks to @thearcanasecretsanta for organizing this fantastic celebration! Finally, thanks to @thearcanagame for inspiring all of this!
