He must have misunderstood her. Misheard her. Anything— this was just his mind, his ears playing tricks on him, right? Yin Niao didn’t believe that, did she? She was just joking right? No, Greed knew she was. She had to be. The girl loved her, how many times had she told him that now? Oh, for fuck’s sake, they’d been together for months. She’d assured him many times she didn’t hate him, didn’t think of him of a monster no matter what he did, what he had done, what he was at the core. She had to be kidding, she just had to be.
Or…
Or had he been too naive, too trusting again? Had he just lived in a lie all along, convinced he had finally found something worth living for, finally found something that made him feel like human, like he belonged?
His face turned pale as he looked down at Yin Niao, eyes widened. He began trembling just a little while shaking his head. He didn’t understand. Couldn’t process what had just been said to him. Why now— why Yin Niao, out of all people? Was it really her? But it definitely was; even Greed, with his unusually poor intuition, knew it was her. He could tell after so many months of being with the bespectacled Xingese.
❝I—❞ he started off, but his voice died out as he found he was unable to speak. What was he supposed to say, to do? Really, the sin was at a loss here. He knew he was a monster, that was not the problem. Hell, he nearly always felt like he didn’t even deserve Yin Niao, with who and what he was— but she had convinced him he did. Even after confessing one of the many wrong things he had done, she still wanted to be with him. She’d still loved him—
But had she ever really done so?
❝I know. I know I am. Told ya, Yinny. Told ya many times…❞ By now, the homunculus was hanging his had, eyes dark and brooding, entire expression showing the ever-so-obvious sadness and pain that had come with hearing the girl say those words.
❝I wish it… I, that I were different too, y’know. But I told ya— warned ya. And I’m sorry.❞
Then, Greed turned away, biting his lip and shoving his hands into the pockets of his coat. He figured it was best to leave now, before he could say or do anything he’d regret, or before he could hear even more hurtful words from Yin Niao.
What was the worst, perhaps, was that he wasn’t the least bit angry or upset with her. Hurt, that he was for sure, but mad? No. He coudn’t be mad at someone for simply telling the truth. It was just the fact the words had come from her mouth— one of the few people that made him feel like living.
❝Tch It’s never gonna change, anway…❞ was his final response.
"...Wait Greed, I..." She hit a new low, even for herself. Out of all the things to say, were those words exactly necessary to speak about? Was it really a smart thing to mention something that kept gnawing at the other's being? What kind of girlfriend was she to bring him down with a sentence that she always denied him to be. What kind of person was she to tell him something he never wanted to hear from her?
Stupid, stupid, stupid! How could she say something so irrevocable, something that she always denied. The thought of it made her stomach turn, nearly setting her mind on panic. What could she do now anyways? After what she had called him, there was no way the two could ever look at each other in the face.
"G-Greed wait, I didn't mean to say that, really," Yin Niao murmured, hesitating to follow him. She figured that he would want his space, yet her mind kept urging her to step up to the sin and comfort him. To just run up to him, wrapping her arms around his frame and muttering 'sorry' multiple times wouldn't get them anywhere. Would it really fix anything at all?
"I know I've over done it, and that I shouldn't have called you a monster." her throat felt tight, almost as if someone's hands were around her neck. The Xingese had dropped her head, wiping her eyes with her hands. Maybe if they just talked it out, things could go back the way it was, even if it did sound like a stupid little day dream.
It wouldn't hurt to try, right?
"...But at least hear my apology before you leave, please."
