Het Ros Donckstraat in Appels in 2025.
Rest in peace, Peird van Appels
In Appels, a village in the Belgian municipality of Dendermonde, a large (almost 5m high) processional giant in the shape of a horse known as the "Peird van Appels" (aka "Ros Appels") was the central figure in the annual Ommegang. It was a symbol of a local pride and community spirit. Tragically it was lost in a fire on the 13th of May 2026.

All That I Am
When I think of all that I have done in my life, the places I have seen, the people I have loved, and those who have loved me, my transgressions fall away one by one like apples fat from the tree until only my soul remains, and that, I am assured, is spoken for. By Ron Stewart
