Continuing my month long series of posts with images made in New Mexico with the Great Divide as my focus or jumping off point: two views made in Bayard and little north of town.
This town (and the huge mine to the north) lie on a branch line of the Santa Fe Railway. Doesn't seem like the line sees any traffic at all at this stage, which is a shame as the mine is certainly still in operation. More on that in a subsequent post. I love the color combination the ATSF used on their wooden depots (first image); that spot with the "S" curve on the line show up as Gold Gulch on Google Maps.

if the bayards could turn into any weapon, tool, or object, what would you like to see??? i like to imagine that the paladins can really manipulate the bayards and turn them into cool things, but i want to hear other people’s ideas before i share mine… 👀

Rest in peace, Peird van Appels
In Appels, a village in the Belgian municipality of Dendermonde, a large (almost 5m high) processional giant in the shape of a horse known as the "Peird van Appels" (aka "Ros Appels") was the central figure in the annual Ommegang. It was a symbol of a local pride and community spirit. Tragically it was lost in a fire on the 13th of May 2026.
