In 2020, for the second year in a row, scientists at the Florida Aquarium in Apollo Beach, Tampa, successfully spawned threatened Atlantic pillar coral. This lab-induced technique produced more larvae with a higher genetic diversity than wild spawning. Scientists hope this can be used to save corals in the Florida reef tract.

Don’t let tomorrow’s worries steal today’s joy!

Although the sunset on this particular 09/09 had been pretty so-so, I had to step out to capture these shocking pink, melting gold, colors that were breaking through the many layers of dark and dramatic clouds. A cargo ship of some sort was crossing in front of St. Petersburg, Florida, seen from my home in Apollo Beach. The patches of pink can be seen reflecting in the inky blue waters of Tampa Bay.
