#apa mini

Brand new from 百合花 Lilium  =D  

This is a band we have featured several times, but I was never sure what English name to call them -- I had seen them called Lilies, Taiwan Lily, Taiwan Flower. If you click the 百合花 tag, you’ll see lots of posts about lovely flowers, besides our content about the band, LOL. (scroll, scroll, scroll...)

But they seem to have settled on Lilium recently, at YouTube (百合花liliumtaiwan) and also Instagram (liliumtaiwan). Their fb address is still taiwanflower.

'We Are All The Same' 「逐家攏仝款」/  [tak-ke lóng kāng-khuán]  is a song by Lilium (百合花) from their album ‘Burnana’ (燒金蕉).  Everything I love about the band is present: full throated lead vocals, and intriguing vocal harmony from Asue Chiu, and an indie rock arrangement from this trio: 林奕碩-Voc/gtr, Asue Chiu 邱舒 (邱莉舒 Li-Shu Chiu)-drums/voc, 林威佐-bass.  

Listening to this song makes me wonder who their western influences are, ‘cos I hear some twists and turns that seem to come out of old prog-rock (e.g., King Crimson during their heavier trio era)

By the way, drummer 邱舒 does plenty of lead singing on her own, as well as playing acoustic guitar. Her solo/side projects fb is 邱莉舒/邱舒的時間.  I get confused about the TW dialects, but I think the band sing in Taiwanese/Hokkien and I’ve seen clips/photos of Asue Chiu 邱舒 on Hakka entertainment shows.  Please forgive me if I get this kind of thing incorrect!  =D

Lena Cha 查查 from Astro Bunny 原子邦妮 takes you *downstairs into APA mini, and through their set-up & soundcheck.  =D

They brought out all the gear for this January 20th album release show, electric and acoustic guitars, and even ChaCha’s Theremin!   Towards the end, you see some snippets of performance, including a rare sight of both members playing guitars.

*I had no idea APA mini was in the basement – when the video began, I thought she was going downstairs into The WALL Live House.  

Here is one clip from the show; so dark on stage, but I’m pretty sure Lena is playing Theremin for the melody, holding a note as NU transitions into the next song.:

Following on from the previous post, here’s 甜約翰 Sweet John from a recent show at apa mini (小地方展演空間) with 椅子 Chairs' and Wen Chiang Liao 廖文強   

江婕羽 YT channel has much more from this show.  Huh, I almost didn’t recognize the venue from this angle, until I realized that the crowd was sitting. At apa mini, the stage is very low compared to other venues, and when everybody stands, only the tall can see!   0_0
