High School Teacher (Anonymously) Brags About His Role in Stopping the Formation of Student Atheist Group
This came to my attention earlier today. Apparently the teacher in question happened across a pamphlet from the Secular Student Alliance that sought to advise and educate young student atheists on how to organize themselves at a local level. It so offended his religious (read: christian) sensibilities that he actively worked to prevent his students from establishing an atheist group, and ultimately succeeded. After this was achieved, he wrote a letter to the SSA explaining why he did exactly what he did. I've posted an excerpt below.
Nobody should ever force their beliefs on someone unwilling to receive them, regardless of what those beliefs are. I ask you, if our schools aren't meant to be bastions of learning and knowledge that espouse free thought and expression, then where is?
