Read The Doctrine of Labyrinths so you can bitch about it w/ me. It's not even The Worst, which is the worst part, it just has awful pacing and there's clearly some [WARNING] [DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE ANY SENSITIVE CONTENT] ...r*cov*ry)... [END SENSITIVE CONTENT WARNING]. Most unforgivable, though, is that the worldbuilding is good, the magic system is interesting, and the characters *should* be everything that we like. +there's mind control. How can you bore me with that???

old man and the sea is a trash book. bitch ass man character spends the entire book catching this GIANT fish... only for it to get EATEN BY SHARKS BY THE TIME HE RETURNS?? literally pointless. worst book eighth grade (and current) me ever read. i hate hemingway.

the porpoise by mark haddon. i cannot BEGIN to even describe how utterly terrible this book is. the plot is utterly everywhere and the characters are just the stiffest pieces of wet cardboard ever. also it's a retelling of Pericles but in the worst way possible

anti recommendation #1: The Ecliptic by Benjamin Wood. I read it bc it sounded cool and the guy had written some dark academia stuff that had gone over well, and holy Shit lmao. its over 400 pages and starts with an honestly cool storyline, then ditches it and makes the next 300 pages a really long wank session that occasionally sounds deep, and then ends with the stupidest ending possible. apparently this guy is a creative writing professor, too, which makes the lazy writing so much worse lol

anti rec: stephen king's fucking it. i literally gave every single stephen king book i have collected over the past 10 years away after reading that book. i DONT want every main character's penis described and i DONT wanna read a child orgy (and i dont wanna read about a hate crime commited against someone with the same name as my v queer partner) and FUCK clowns and FUCK YOU stephen king talk to a fucking woman some day

anti-rec: the essex serpent. 400 pages of absolutely nothing and there wasn't even a snake in the end just a weirdly shaped log!!! wtf where's the giant serpents, cowards!!! waste of my bloody time

Okay so for a book anti-reccomendation: This might be a spicy take but I HATED Gone Girl. It was just a narrative of two unpleasant people who think they're smarter than everyone else in the room. They're the type who think they're morally superior for listening to vinyl and reading print instead of e-reader. They weren't even so evil that they were interesting, I just wanted to shove them into a locker.

Are you still taking antirecs? If so: Walden by Henry David Thoreau. The man had a philosophical debate about if he had the right to pull weeds in his garden because who is he to decide which plants deserve to grow. He talked about ants for 8 pages. You honestly could not pay me enough to read even a single chapter again.
