COLORISM ~ What is Colorism?
We live in a world where white supremacy still exists. Although it’s not as apparent as it was at one time, it’s still real. As a result, society has a tendency of loving and embracing people of lighter skin tones, while shunning and terrorizing people with darker skin tones. This love-hate relationship between light skins and dark skins is called Colorism. Colorism refers to the intentional (and unintentional) disrespect of darker skinned people in the African-American community.

Mexicans supported the Confederacy in a ratio of 3 to 1.
This is one of the complicating factors for the POC label in Texas and other Confederate states. Mexican allies to Confederate states were explicitly supporting a system which subjugated Black Americans.
Overt racism is still a problem within Latin America where colorism is institutionalized and less support goes to Latinos with darker skin.Â
