The one exciting thing to come out of today amid all the demo server hiccups is they’ve started announcing the cast! We now have the Female Freelancer and Mathias!
Aaah, where? I can’t find the news anywhere. Who are the VA?
Warriors-centric fic recs~
Because Warriors deserves all the love, and so do these wonderful stories! By no means is this an exhaustive list, just some of my favorites. Feel free to add to it! :3
Bittersweet by WolfWarden @wolfwarden - One-shot. Includes references to A Place to Call Home by Tuxedo_Elf @tuxedoelf. Warriors is determined to not get attached to Wind. Guess how that goes? Some angst, some hurt/comfort, some cuteness. Truly bittersweet.
Brushing Away the Sickness by TallyAce @tallyacestories - One-shot. Warriors and Legend travel to a town for a supply run, but get stuck there when Wars has to recover from an illness. A marvelous sickfic.
Contrition Stirs on Sleepless Nights by Gintrinsic @gintrinsic-writing - One-shot. Legend’s an insomniac, Wars suffers from night terrors. Bonding ensues. Outstanding character study of Warriors from Legend’s POV.
Down to the Letter by EstaJay @ej-fanfics - Multi-chapter, incomplete. Part 1 of a series. AU in which Warriors was a postman before he was a soldier. Charming story with comedy, angst, and mystery. Plus, all the boys end up wearing the postman’s outfit at one point.
Fiducia by balimaria @balimaria - Multi-chapter, complete. A revelation makes the Links question Warriors’ loyalty. Angst galore.
Fluent by quirkle @quirkle2 - One-shot. This is a Legend-centric fic, but it’s Warriors’ POV and it’s just really good, okay? Angst, hurt/comfort, and fluff rolled into one.
Iconoclasm by CrimsonRavioli - One-shot, complete. The boys end up at the Temple of Souls. Warriors is not too happy about it.
Idiot by Din_Harlow - One-shot. A blow to the head gives Warriors amnesia. Oops. The boys try to help. Angst.
Marigolds by theScrap_Witch @thescrapwitch - One-shot. Time’s POV. The story of Time and Warriors’ relationship across the eras. Have tissues handy for this one.
Nine Lives (ch. 6) by Ageofavalon - One-shot collection. A very popular fic, but I’d be remiss not to mention it. The Yiga accidentally capture Warriors instead of Wild and decide it’s a great opportunity to get intel on the Champion, by any means necessary.
Not A Hero by Idhren15 @idhrencookieelf - Multi-chapter, complete. An AU in which the War Across Eras ends a little differently… Angst, angst, and more angst! An angst buffet!
Obsession by Roaming_Numerals - Multi-chapter, complete. The Links end up in Warriors’ Hyrule, and at first it’s great. Then they all get captured by Cia, and it’s not as great.
Out of Place and Underdressed by SemiSolace - Multi-chapter, incomplete. Warriors needs to pick three Links to attend a fancy gala with him, and this proves quite a challenge. Comedy gold.
War in His Own Mind by Mimiwritesfic @cowbn - One-shot. An incident on the battlefield reminds Warriors of his unfortunate stint as the Great Fairy’s captive. Angst, plus sweet moments with Time and Sky.
Wars of the Mind by LettersByTheLake @lyrabythelake - Multi-chapter, complete. A serious head injury puts Warriors out of commission, and he wonders who he is if he can’t be a hero. Glorious character study with father!Time, soft!Legend, and best brother!Wind.
no thoughts head empty only baby sky and baby loftwing
crying headcanons 😢
(in order of who cries most often to least often)
wind - cries easily. he’s an emotional, expressive kid, plus has all those wacky pubescent hormones screwing with mood regulation. sees crying as a normal thing, so he’s not ashamed of it
sky - sensitive, so he cries semi-frequently, but usually it’s because he feels moved rather than upset. the type to cry at beautiful things. will also cry when he’s angry at himself
wild - prefers to cry quietly and privately, but isn’t that uncomfortable doing it in front of others. he cried a lot when he first woke from the shrine. views crying as a healthy outlet
hyrule - cries an average amount (whatever that is). in the moment, will cry in front of others, but later on will apologize for being a burden
four - cried a lot as a kid, but life has hardened him. gets embarrassed about crying in front of others. prefers to keep personal problems to himself
warriors - never cries around others. he trained himself to never appear vulnerable in front of his soldiers. he cries when he needs to, but it’s infrequent
legend - should cry more but refuses to, until his emotions finally overwhelm him and he devolves into a sobbing mess. also cries when he’s super frustrated
twilight - it takes a lot to make him cry. doesn’t like to do it in front of others because he doesn’t want them to worry
time - wouldn’t mind crying in front of the others, but he rarely feels the need to cry these days. has done a lot of sobbing over his traumas while malon holds him

Looking at the tag now and some of the posts about Anthem or even the anon message I've got yesterday... People really don’t understand it’s possible to be critical about something without being hateful or trying to spread negativity. You criticize Anthem? You're an evil player out to get Bioware and ruin people's fun! This reminds me a lot of people who made posts like "being supportive at all times is important and if you're critical of MEA you're a mean and terrible person so you should get out of the fandom" and proved how nice they were by harassing me with anon hate. Like sure, it's all about being nice. Critical people really are the problem here... ಠ_ಠ
To me, the pressure to shut up about everything wrong about Anthem to “support the devs” is not a good thing because: 1. Anthem being sold as it is part of a wider gaming industry problem where they rush to deliver an unfinished product full of glaring issues and expects everyone to be okay with it because it's a "service" when they could have delivered a much better product if they had waited before launching. If no one comments on it it's only going to get worse with devs also suffering from this since players don't get to experience the quality version devs actually want players to play. 2. Not warning people and spreading misinformation like "Anthem is 100% fun, there are only very small issues and people who speak out about them are nitpicking" is not okay to me because 60 dollars is a fucking lot to some people and before spending it they should know what they're getting. The issues aren't small. They're kinda big. People have a right to know. And if you're complaining that so many people are talking about them, that should tell you a lot about the nature, number and importance of said issues.
Does it mean it's impossible to have fun with the game? No. The game can be really fun!!! Gosh, it has so much potential. But a critical review can acknowledge that. It's all about balance and respect. Does it mean the issues will remain? It's possible they won't and any fair critical person will applaud the devs when they will be resolved.
In the meantime, if a product is being sold in such a poor state like Anthem is right now, it’s only fair to tell people about them so they know what they can expect from it. Critical reviews don't have to be mean, against the devs or trying to ruin a company.
Does it mean everyone has to read those reviews? No! How can you escape them? Blacklisting, blocking, unfollowing, and shaping your own experience online. It’s much better than telling people what to do because they think differently.
Anthem is full of potential, has amazing voice acting, very interesting lore, cool protagonist, great characters and relationships. It can be really fun but right now it has so many issues:
-poorly optimized: it's not just me, every review i've seen mentions that it's a major issue.
-too many loading screens and a bad UI: you need to go through a lot of loading screens just to do the one thing you want to do. and the UI is not intuitive at all (the map, quests, ...).
-terrible AI: seriously. it's shockingly bad.
-poor communication between squad members : during a mission a simple task like fetch something and put it back somewhere too us 10 min because one player had the thing in question, didn't know what to do with it, and we couldn't advance at all until they finally accomplished the task. and when the AI puts the thing back to fetch it again... the player went back and took it before i could and it took us another 5 min before they finally had an epiphany and we could get out. Push to talk wasn't working and no chat made it impossible to communicate.
-bad dialogues sometimes: some are good, but some are just terrible and not really the quality one expects from Bioware. They use bad pretexts to share lore in dialogue. They must know how it looks like because one character at some point asks the Freelancer why they don't know basic info and even wonders if they have amnesia.
-poor quests in the middle of the main storyline: you gotta get x amount of materials, repair x javelins, etc etc to enter 4 freaking tombs to advance in the main storyline, and the worst part is I was in freeplay and had all my materials. I left freeplay and I’m back to zero. Why?! You get no help too, there isn't a location or indication on the map.
-all weapons look the same. loots will get better apparently but it’s still kinda meh.
Eh. It's too bad because what makes it really interesting (lore, characters, relationships) is really amazing.
