Remember Marie Bracquemond Marie Anne Caroline Quivoron was 19 when she first was allowed with her work on the official Salon, still much under the influence of Ingres, the French neoclassical painter. But over time she adopted the impressionist style and became - in the words of Georges Geofrroy - one of the three “grandes dames” of impressionism, alongside Mary Cassatt and Berthe Morisot. She married the French painter and etcher Félix Bracquemond and was a close friend of Alfred Sisley and his wife, who she painted in "Under the Lamp”.
Marie Bracquemond died on 17 January 1916 in Sèvres, France.

Today marks the 80th anniversary of his death. He died on February 12th, 1935 – just short of his 90th birthday. He lived an incredibly long and full life, a rarity of the time.
So who is August Escoffier? He wasn’t born into privilege nor had any kind of extraordinary upbringing. He was born into a normal family with the normal expectations of what he would become – a blacksmith like his father, even though he had ideas that he would become a sculpture.
