Morte diffamata, per me sei così bella!
Già di mattino ti penso come la mia capanna,
dove la sera mi trasferirò,
e penso che sopra la capanna brillerà una stella.
Nemmeno del trasloco ho paura!
Certo, prima bisognerà bruciare molto,
prima di tutto il corpo con tutte le sue brame
e dell'anima ciò che qui s'è accumulato
in fatto di coraggio e di allegria.
Solo il mio amore, morte, lo porterò con me!
Per lui, se davvero sei il mio rifugio,
dovrai preparare l'angolo migliore della mia capanna,
e se possibile mettici anche una finestra,
perché la stella, la buona stella di cui parlo,
lo possa colmare di tutta la consolazione,
che qui non gli ho potuto dare.
