This rather dashing slate-blue pelisse is dear to my heart for a few reasons. Not only do I like it for itself, and not only does it feature in two of my favorite Austen dramatizations, but it was the first time I ever discovered a reworn costume on my own! (It's hardly surprising that the costume was reused, given that both these series were from a time when the BBC was well known to be short on money.)
I also find it interesting how a different hat gives the whole thing a slightly different look. In particular, Jane's hat with the black cockade and feather picks up the dark trim on the bodice more, while the light feather on Elizabeth's hat echoes her pale blue gloves.
