It had been a very, very long day for the young Pharaoh, and yet sleep was the last thing on his mind. He’d been sitting in that stuffy throne room all day, and when he was given a break from that, he was in meeting rooms or parlors talking with even stuffier nobles. He was practically crawling out of his skin with the desire to get away from it all, or at least move.
Like many times before, the end of Re’s journey across the sky marked Atem’s chance to taste freedom. He ducked through the quiet halls of the palace draped in a thick violet cloak to hide his hair, intent on slipping through the gates with the aid of his most loyal guards. The fresh air, still warm from the heat of the desert sun, washed over his face like an old friend when he stepped out into the courtyard, and it traveled alongside him after he was past the palace walls.
However, this time, he found himself traveling away from the city rather than toward it. He’d had quite enough of people for one day, and it had been some time since he had the chance to relax on the shores of Iteru. He could see the moonlight playing on the water’s surface in the distance, and he smiled under the scarf wrapped around his face.
