i watch as he gets up and passes me my clothes. the dimly lit room allowing me to ignore who he really is. "soo uh i'll call you later?" his words snapping me back into reality.
"huh?—oh.. yeah sure" i mumble back as i lazily put my clothes back on. truth is, i don't want him to call later. i didn't even want him to call in the first place.
he turns away for a second, distracted by something across the room, and my hand immediately reaches for my phone. i unlock it, checking my messages and notifications before i can even think about what i'm doing.
nothing. not from anyone important anyones. nothing from him.
i scroll through my notifications. nothing but messages from my friends and one night stands trying to make something real. im pretending im aimlessly scrolling, when in reality im looking for someone else—or rather someone else.
i pretend to be shocked that i'm disappointed.
even after everything, every argument, every time i've told him im not going to wait for him anymore, some stupid part of me still expects his name to appear on my screen. wanting him to want me back.
except here i am, sitting in some other guys room—someone who was supposed to be a fresh start—still convincing myself tonight will be the night. the one where matt finally realizes im still here.
i lock my phone and collect the rest of my belongings before he can turn around.
"we still down for dinner tomorrow?"
fuck. the last thing i want to do is go on a date. it's one thing pushing my feelings down in bed, but its another having to do it over food.
"can we rain check? i know its last minute but i forgot i have to help kendall move into her new apartment," i lie.
"yeah, no problem" he says as he moves my hair out of my face. i can see the disappointment he's trying to hide. afterall, i've been avoiding going on dates with him more than anything.
i turn around and head for the door before he can give me a kiss goodbye. "see ya," i say not even turning around.
"bye! was nice having you ov—" i shut the door before he can finish.
the car ride home was brutal. normally i'd be geeked that a guy i liked invited me over, that i got to sleep with him, that he wanted me for more than just my body. but did i even like him? or was he just another distraction from whom i want the most. fucking matt.
trying to go to bed was even worse. i gave up on tossing and turning and opened instagram instead.
my stomach dropped. matt posted on his story.
to make matters worse, it was a picture of him and some other girls shoes.
i noticed their surroundings instantly. it was the dirty, black and white tiled floor of our favorite bar. fuck. he knows what he's doing.
who was she anyways? was she his girlfriend, or another one of his recent pick-ups from the bar? what matters most is that she seemed like someone special. someone other than me.
after overanalyzing his story, desperately searching for this girl who he has managed to leave no clues behind of her identity, i finally give up.
as i put my phone down and finally doze off i hear my phone buzzing.
one new message: long time no see
okkkk first chapter! matt's pov next ;)
