Once again, our heroes sit down and try to figure out what happens next with their now larger and much more complicated party.
Of course, the same principle applied to their actions as to Totenkopf's â just because they knew what they needed to do didn't mean they knew how to do it.
âSo now what?â asked Dr. Wilson. âWhat do we do, just go to the Orkneys and check all the henges one by one? How many are there?â
âWell, we know we don't need to check the Twelve Apostles because I can already see that's not the one,â said DI Carter. âBut yeah, there've got to be dozens. Probably way more that have fallen down and nobody knows about them anymore.â
âWell, there's gotta be a better way than visiting them all,â Dr. Wilson said. âWe'll be there until next year! How were you planning on finding it, way back when?â he asked Sir Stephen. âDid you have, I don't know, a mystical druid or somebody who was going to show you the way?â
âNo,â Sir Stephen admitted. âAs you say, we thought we would simply visit them all in turn until we found the one that matched the map. We think the Red Death had a way to rule them out, but we never knew for sure.â
âWe do know a couple of things,â said DI Carter. âWe know it's thirteen stones, and we know they're not in a circle...â
âMedieval maps aren't known for their accurate cartography,â Natasha said dubiously, âand we don't even know for sure it's a stone circle. That's just what Sir Steve thinks it is. Maybe it's a riddle instead of a map.â
DI Carter shook her head. âWe've got to make some assumptions or it's like Dr. Wilson said â we'll be here for months,â she said. âIn the force, if we have unknowns we start with the strictest set of criteria and rule those possibilities out first, and only then do we cast our net a little wider. So we'll start with thirteen stones in an oval.â She looked around at the pictures and bookshelves on the walls. âThis is an archaeology department,â she observed. âDo you have, I don't know, some kind of list of henges in the Orkneys? Preferably with maps?â
âI hope so,â said Nat. Sue was an organizer â her job as department secretary was to keep things in order for a dozen scatterbrained professors. Her world needed to make meticulous sense and she'd just witnessed something that made no sense whatsover. Nat could only be grateful that she hadn't been present for Zola's transformation, or the poor woman would probably have lost her mind.
âWe have it!â Sue shouted through the wall. âHere it is!â
She bustled back into the room with a very large hardcover book bound in blue canvas â if the cover had ever had a paper sleeve, it had fallen apart long ago. Sue put it down on her desk and opened it so she could fold out a map for them. âThis should be just what your research requires,â she declared. âCome on, let's get you all comfortable in the meeting room, and I'll see if I can find you some cookies.â Her voice had a high-pitched, desperate edge to it that made Natasha think she was going to pass out at any moment.
Nat went and reached out a hand, but did not actually touch the woman. âSue,â she said, âI know I'm not the department head, but... why don't you take the rest of the day off.â People had their weirdness threshholds and Sue had clearly reached hers.
Sue grabbed Nat's arm. The relief in her face was obvious, and it was merely a bit of politeness that she asked, âare you sure?â
âVery sure,â said Nat. âGo visit Brandon or something. I bet he misses you.â
âOh, thank you, Natalie,â said Sue. âI do think I need a break. Yes, thank you very much.â
âYou're welcome.â Nat patted her shoulder, and the others made way for her to bustle out of the room.
Natasha locked the office door so they wouldn't be disturbed, and everybody got themselves settled into the library. This was a tiny room behind Sue's office, crammed with bookshelves that just barely left room for a table and chairs. The shelves held everything from textbooks of old English to more archaeological surveys to a disintegrating Penguin Classics edition of the Prose Eddas, and there was a single small window, above the radiator, that looked out on the car park. Through this, Nat could see Sue getting into her car. Hopefully she would be okay. Natasha liked Sue.
It was also exactly what they needed â one of the appendices included detailed survey maps of all the larger known stone circles in Scotland, all to scale and with north at the top, and documenting the suspected locations of missing stones. If any trace of their circle still existed, it ought to be in there. She turned to the section with the fold-out maps, and slid it across the table to Sir Stephen. âLook through this,â she told him. âIf you find any that look like your ring, put one of these on it so it sticks out at the side.â She gave him a package of post-it notes. âThey're sticky.â
âThank you,â said Sir Stephen, and reverently unfolded the first map. He would be from an age when books were rare and precious, she observed. They wouldn't have to worry about him being rough with them. âI had not expected any part of my quest to take place in a library,â he added.
âI'd say libraries are where most questing goes on these days,â said Natasha.
In order not to distract him, the rest of them filed back out into Sue's office, where there were more chairs and more space not to feel like they were sardines in a book-liken can. Rushman went to pour himself another cup of coffee, the first one having been spilled when Natasha attacked him. Dr. Wilson wandered around looking at the posters and replica artefacts that decorated the room, and DI Carter checked her email.
âHughes identified the blood from the warehouse floor,â she announced.
âPierce's?â asked Nat. She wasn't sure if that would surprise her or not. She had a feeling Mr. Pierce, trying to convince her his statues were real, was not merely a victim in this after all... but she was also plenty familiar with people who turned on their allies the moment they were no longer useful.
âNo. It's a guy named Mick O'Herlihy. We had his profile because he'd been arrested for breaking into people's cars six years ago. We did community service and we let him go.â Carter frowned. âWhy is his name familiar?â
âThe Loch Ness Monster guy was O'Herlihy,â said Nat. Could they be relatives? Or was this just a coincidence.
âOh, right.â Carter nodded. âThat's why. Anyway, she says she's gonna work on the shield right away, but it might be a problem getting DNA off of something made of beat-up wood and leather. She's as likely to get a profile for the tree or the cow as for whoever bled on it.â
âFair enough,â said Natasha. Now they just had to wait for Sir Stephen to find a match, if one even existed. In the mean time... she looked over at Rushman. What the hell was she going to do about him?
He looked back at her, and ventured a timid smile. âSo, uh, who are your friends?â he asked uncomfortably. He was trying to sound as if everything were normal. He knew it was not.
Natasha thought of telling him that they weren't really friends, but didn't feel it was worth it. âWell, that's Detective Inspector Sharon Carter from Inverness.â
âHi,â said Carter.
âNice to meet you, Inspector.â Rushman stood up straight to shake her hand.
âThis is Dr. Sam Wilson, who worked at Raigmore Hospital,â Nat went on.
Rushman shook his hand, too. âThat was a terrible thing to hear about,â he said, referring to the hospital falling down. âAny clue who did it yet? Has anyone claimed responsibility?â
âI don't know,â Dr. Wilson said. âI've been pretty busy.â
âWe're working on it,â Carter promised.
âAnd the guy we left in the other room is Sir Stephen of Rogsey,â Natasha finished. âHe's a Saxon knight from the eleventh century. Or at least, he thinks he is.â The unspoken corollary hung in the air: like you think you're my father.
âI see,â said Rushman. âAnd, uh... what are you all doing with the stone circle thing?â
âWe're on a quest,â said Carter, in a perfect deadpan. âWe seek the Holy Grail.â
Rushman seemed to decide that made about as much sense as any of the rest of it. âI'm not sure what kind of help I can be with that,â he said. âI've only seen the movie... I've been to Stonehenge, though,â he offered, and smiled at Natasha. âThat was your Mom and I's second honeymoon, remember? You stayed with your aunt in the city, and she said she took you to the museum...â his voice trailed off as Natasha shook her head.
âI don't remember,â she said.
She felt a little bad for him honestly. In Rushman's own mind, he'd come all this way to see a daughter who'd thrown him on the floor and told him he didn't exist... or had he? Maybe that was just what Zola, or somebody else, wanted Natasha to think? She couldn't shake the feeling that this was deliberately playing on her emotions, giving her something she'd always wished she had in an attempt to weaken her. Maybe to soften her belief in objective truth, the kind she tried to uncover in mossy ruins and smashed pottery, and make her more open to some alternate version of reality. That was what Zola had said in the police station: truth is something we make up. This was certainly an ample demonstration.
âSo your parents left you, huh?â Rushman asked.
âI'm sure they had their reasons,â Nat told him. She'd hated them for it once, but since then she'd come to realize that the world was more complicated. âThat was during the end days of the USSR, shortly after Chernobyl. Maybe they had no money. Maybe they were dying of radiation sickness.â Either way, she liked to hope they hadn't actually known who they were leaving her with. If they'd believed their daughter had been raised and loved... well, that was just another beautiful lie, wasn't it?
âWell, on their behalf, I apologize,â said Rushman. âThey don't know what they missed.â
âThey didn't miss anything,â said Nat. âWhatever you remember about me isn't real. I never did any of that.â
âYou were never in ballet recitals?â He smiled kindly. âNever built snowmen? You weren't your high school valedictorian?â
Nat shook her head. âNone of that,â she said.
âOh.â He fell silent, and Nat couldn't help feeling like she'd robbed him of something.
For a moment Rushman just stood swirling his coffee. Then he drained the cup and put it down on the table.
âI came here to see you,â he told Natasha. âIf you don't want to see me, I guess I might as well just go home.â
Nat's gut reaction was that this was a terrible idea. If he were something Zola had created, somebody they couldn't trust, then she didn't want him out of her sight. Keep your friends close, the saying went, but your enemies closer. Besides, there was another complicating factor.
âDo you have a home?â Nat asked. His address in Manhasset was for an empty lot, and his phone number didn't exist. His credit cards and passport probably didn't either. What would happen if he tried to go home? What would happen when he got there?
âOf course I do,â he said. âI was just there last night!â
âYou didn't even exist last night,â said Nat. She sighed. âWe'll figure something out.â
There was something else, too â if Natasha wasn't sure she could trust Rushman, then how did she know she could trust Sir Stephen? He seemed to believe he was in the right, but was he? After all, his goal was the same as he claimed the bad guys' was, to find the Holy Grail.
Maybe that was the real reason Nat liked archaeology, she thought. It was full of puzzles and politics, but none of them had immediate consequences. If DI Carter had been investigating the case of a man accused of murdering his two young nephews in order to steal their inheriance, it would be a case with grieving relatives and demands for justice, not to mention the national scandal if they'd been members of the royal family. If Nat were doing it, then King Richard III and the Princes in the Tower were long dead, and historians and archaeologists could theorize however they wanted without worrying that they were ruining somebody's life. When you made it real, it just wasn't fun anymore.
So here is a snippet of the Ani/Obi/Dala Moulin rouge AU I am working on. Also under the cut is my very first attempt at porn, Let me know what you think!
Anakin took slow, even breaths as he piloted the air car through Coruscant's heavy traffic; trying to steady his nerves. âOkay. You can do this Anikin.â He said trying to embolden himself as the air car glided to a smooth stop outside of a gaudy building in the mid level of Coruscant. It was influenced by the Delman movement, all curving lines that met  right under the sign that spelled out Moulin Rouge in bright yellow lights.  He stepped out of the vehicle and nervously smoothed down his clothes. He tried to relax his rigid posture, He had dressed down for tonight, so he had to make sure his bearing didnât scream Jedi. He knew other Jedi frequented the Moulin Rouge (It was Quinlan Vos who had pestered him into actually visiting the place). He looked in the air car window and adjusted his hair and let his shoulders loosen.âItâs now or neverâ he muttered to himself under his breath as he walked towards the club.
The line to get into the place was by no means small, but as Quinlan had assured him, the place wasnât as popular as some of the lower level night clubs. When it was his turn to pay, his hands were trembling so bad he almost dropped the credit chit. The wookie Bouncer barked in laughter and Anakin could feel his cheeks warming with a blush and cursed the fact that he never mastered his Qui-Gonâs Sabbac face. As soon as he was able he hustled his way in.
As a Jedi, he had been in a lot of Opulent places, and this place was definitely trying to emulate that. The carpet was a deep red and his feet sunk into it with each step. The ceiling had intricate crown moldings. The room was lit with crystal chandeliers highlighting the murals on the wall that Anakin didnât want to look too closely at. He entered the main room and froze trying to take in the sights all around him. There were synth silk strips of every color  hanging from the ceiling with people of various species contorted into elegant shapes. A pink skinned Twi'lek was commanding most of the eyes in the room.
The lights went low in the room as the acrobats untangled themselves from their silks and came to the ground. When the spotlight came on the stage, there were two men and a woman on it.  The songâs first sweet notes started up a man with fiery red hair and a beard strode to the middle of the stage and pulled the petite Togruta flush against his body. Anakin was immediately mesmerized. The man moved with such confidence and grace, it looked as though he had complete control over every muscle in his body. The bearded man slid his right hand up the womanâs side and along her arm with intent until his hand met hers. His other hand snapped to her waist. They moved across the stage like they were walking on air, with not an inch of space between them. They were as close as two people grinding on each other in a club but this seemed so much more intimate. Anakin had to adjust himself as he watched. The Bearded man lifted the woman effortlessly into the air and tossed her to the other man. Anakin knew he was supposed to be following the Togrutaâs movements across the stage, But he was mesmerized by the red head. The other man lifted the woman and traveled across the stage to where the red head was and placed her between them. The three of them  danced sinuously around each other, each move elegant and incredibly provocative. The final note of the music echoed through the room as the dancers struck their final pose. It was completely silent for a moment, and then the audience erupted with applause, cheers, and whistles. The dancers made their final bows and left the stage.
The performers all filtered out into the audience and chatted with them. Anakin was just trying to figure out what to do next when a smooth pleasant voice with a Coruscanti accent interrupted him. âI saw you watching me rather intently during my performance.â
Anakin turned around to see the red headed man from the dance earlier. âI- uh - yes. I really Uh enjoyed your performance.â He stuttered, mentally cursing himself for how far from smooth that was.
The man smiled âMy name is Obi-Wan, what can I call you?â he asked, moving even closer into Anakin's personal space.
âIâm Anakin.â Â He blurted out and then winced, he shouldnât have used his real name. People who frequent these sorts of places use false names, right?
âWell Anakin, how would you like a dance?â Obi-Wan inquired, reaching his hand out toward the younger man.He froze for a second before he came to a decision. He came here for a reason, and if he had has choice of anyone in this place, it would be Obi-Wan. Anakin took a deep breath and grasped Obi-Wanâs hand. The smile he gave in response lit up all of his features and made something in Anakin's stomach flutter. He flushed as Obi-Wan slid his other hand onto Anakin's waist and pulled him closer.
Obi-Wan started guiding Anakin across the floor in time with the slow music. He marveled at how graceful the older manâs movements were. Anakin felt like a youngling stumbling over his own feet in comparison.
The room Obi-Wan led him to was sparsely furnished. There was a gold couch, a massive bed framed with a twisting headboard carved from some sort of wood, and a small dresser next to the bed. The room also had the same plush carpet as the rest of the building. Obi-Wan took Anakin by the arm and led him to the bed where he gently pushed him into a sitting position on the bed  and kneeled down in front of him. Anakin's body immediately went rigid. âYou're so stiff,â Obi-Wan said as he ran his hands soothingly up the younger manâs thighs. âYou need to relax.â
The older man stood up and set himself down lightly on the bed next to Anakin. He moved in towards the younger man and placed a soft kiss on his lips. Anakin froze for a second and Obi-Wan was about to pull away when Anakin responded. Obi-Wan grazed his teeth across Anakin's lip and a moan escaped him.
They kissed for what felt like forever until Anakin was drowning in it. He felt Obi-Wan run his hands under his shirt and threw his head back with a gasp as the other manâs finger grazed his nipple. Obi-Wan took the opportunity to mouth at his neck. It felt like his hands were everywhere and every place he touched left a trail of fire behind. Wanting more, Anakin reached down and tried to pull his shirt over his head only to get it stuck. Obi-Wan laughed and reached up to unbutton a few buttons and help Anakin get it over his head. Obi-Wan pushed the younger man down onto the bed and took his time kissing his way down his body, Anakin quivering the whole time. When Obi-Wan reached Anakin's pants he looked up into his eyes and grinned wickedly. Anakin whined as Obi-Wan pulled back and took off Anakin's boots. He was so distracted he didnât notice when Obi-Wan froze at the sight of the Jediâs lightsaber he had kept tucked in his boot. Obi-wan quickly composed himself and took off the other boot. Anakin drew in a breath as obi-Wan ran his hands up the younger manâs thighs and pulled off his pants and underwear in one go. With nothing restricting it, Anakin's cock sprung free. He bit back a moan as Obi-Wan took him in hand and started to stroke. It was so much better than when he did this himself. He gasped as a wet heat engulfed his cock and his eyes flew open to the sight of Obi-Wan with his mouth on Anakin's dick. It took everything he had not to buck up into the older manâs mouth. His hands were in the sheets and he was convulsively gripping and releasing it. The sound of his heart beating rapidly in his chest filled his ears and all he could look at was his cock sliding in and out of Obi-Wanâs mouth.  He felt pressure building and building and just as he thought it would burst, Obi-Wan stopped. As he pulled back Anakin whimpered. âAre you fucking kidding me?â
âI rather thought it would be you fucking me.â Obi-Wan smirked.
Daisuke clenched his teeth and used the fact Kaiser couldnât see his face to close his eyes. He expected pain. He expected Kaiser to just take what he wanted.
But like everything else that morning, nothing ended up the way he thought it would.
Except for the fact this was the Kaiser doing it to him, this had to rank up among the most enjoyable experiences of his life. Heâd heard about sex before. Heâd even done a little fooling around â mostly with himself, given the way the Kaiser liked to âfavorâ him with possessive kisses on regular occasions â and he sort of knew what it felt like to have this kind of pleasure.
But having someone else do it to him ended up being something on a different scale entirely. Even with the pain from Kaiserâs touch on those nerves, he knew heâd never forget this morning. Even if it never happened againâŠ
But it was going to, wasnât it? Kaiserâs words sank into him ever more deeply. Kaiser wanted him and would do this to him whenever Kaiser felt like it.
It wasnât a thought heâd ever wanted to have. He didnât want it to happen now, not in the rational, thinking clearly part of his mind. Even the not quite thinking so clearly part of his mind didnât want it all the way. Maybe if the Kaiser wasnât the Kaiser, if he were really like the way theyâd thought Ichijouji Ken was all those years agoâŠ
That wouldnât have been so bad at all.
He could feel Kaiserâs fingers inside of him. It wasnât perfect by any means. Stinging. Stretching. But Kaiser took his time, and Daisuke realized with a sinking sensation that Kaiser wanted him, Daisuke, to enjoy this. He wasnât sure of why, though in what small space of mind he had that wasnât giving itself over to pure pleasure because it was better than the thought of agonizing pain, he had suspicions.
Heâs not hurting me. Thatâs good.
Heâs doing this and I donât want him to. Thatâs bad.
I canât stop him. If I even tried, heâd hurt V-mon and the others. Thatâs really bad.
Heâd knelt to the Kaiser once before and everything came out all right, before the war dragged on into a horrifying stalemate where for every tower destroyed, he just raised up two more, and for every slave freed, another three fell.
There couldnât be that many Digimon, could there? Surely heâd run out sooner or laterâŠ
But then Kaiserâs fingers moved within him and he touched something and Daisuke cried out, his slowly gathering thoughts now scattered to the winds and he didnât think that he could put them together again, not when Kaiser moved closer to him and he could feel the other against him, knew how aroused and ready he was, and what was going to happen.
His fingers clutched at the sofa. Here, in his own familyâs apartment, where heâd always thought he was safe, would be his first time with anyone.
A soft cry spilled from his lips as the Kaiser slowly entered him. Heâd wondered before what it would be like, to be inside someone himself, or to have someone taking him like this. Now he knew part of the equation and the answer was: amazing.
Kaiser soon struck a rhythm in his motions that escalated from âamazingâ to âmind-blowingâ. He moved in and out, alternating Daisuke from being filled to empty and back again, sending spirals of unparalleled pleasure rocketing all through Daisuke.
Air no longer seemed necessary, replaced by each thrust inside of him. Daisuke found himself moving with Kaiserâs movements, trying to match the rhythm. The idea of them matching, moving as one, sealed itself into him and he could not have fought it anymore than he could fight his need for food or sleep.
Conscious thought slipped away and Daisuke didnât try to regain it. All he needed was this feeling of Kaiser inside of him, Kaiserâs hands mapping out his body, Kaiserâs lips caressing his back and shoulders.
If this was the price he paid for his friends being safe, for his partner not being reformatted, then there were so many worse things he could think of that he couldâve been asked to do.
From somewhere on the other side of the pleasure, he could hear Kaiserâs voice.
âDo you like this, Daisuke?â
What else could he say? Lying wouldâve required thinking and Daisuke couldnât get himself together enough to do that right now.
âYes...â
He arched his back as Kaiser brushed against that spot again, breath coming in short gasps, burying his head against the pillows as all of the pleasure came to an unexpected head.
Oh. He should probably wash those pillows once they were done. Or his parents would give him hell for it.
For the moment, though, he rolled over onto a clean portion of the couch and tried to remember what it felt like to have a fully functioning brain. Kaiser being next to him still didnât help at all, not with how he kept on stroking Daisuke, and when Daisuke wriggled a bit and opened his eyes, he could see a very satisfied smile on the otherâs lips.
âSo you did enjoy this after all,â Kaiser all but purred the words out, moving around so he could wrap an arm around Daisuke. Daisuke thought about trying to move away but he felt too good to move any more for the moment. What would be the point, anyway? Kaiser would just pull him back.
âSo?â Daisuke shrugged. âDoesnât mean that I like you. Or that Iâm going to help you.â
âI didnât ask you to. I donât even need you to.â Kaiserâs smile was a lazy streak of self-satisfaction. âThis is all that I want from you, Daisuke.â
âAnd if I donât want to give it to you?â Daisuke suspected what the answer would be and he wasnât disappointed.
âIâll take it anyway. Like Iâve done already.â Kaiser ran one finger down the side of Daisukeâs face. âItâs just sex, Daisuke. I only want the use of your body on regular occasions. Nothing else.â
Daisuke didnât trust that for a single moment. But he already knew that Kaiser meant what he said: he hadnât cared about Daisukeâs permission and forced his co-operation. Heâd do it again if he wanted to.
He tilted his head back, letting his brain cells recover, which still wasnât easy since Kaiser hadnât stopped touching him. But he did manage to work out a thought.
âIf I do this with you, when you want, will you stop threatening our partners?â He stopped for a moment, putting another mental slot into place. âI mean, outside of battle.â He didnât at all expect Kaiser to give up fighting them. That wouldâve been really good, but Daisuke knew it wouldnât happen.
Kaiser said nothing at all for a few moments. Daisuke couldnât even tell if he were thinking about what heâd said, that was how still his features were. Silence hung in the air, distant and cold.
âWhenever I want. However I want. I may allow you to have some input, but I am the one in charge of what we do. If something comes up so that you canât attend when I call you, it had better be a legitimate excuse and not something like âyou donât want toâ.â
Daisuke peered a bit closer. âSo what would a legitimate excuse be?â
âIâll let you know.â Kaiser gave him a very regal, stern look before the side of his mouth twisted upward. âIâll even let you decide if you want to tell your friends or not.â His fingers tapped their way down Daisukeâs side. âI personally have no objections to them knowing that you spend at least part of your spare time in my arms.â
Daisuke had no intentions of telling them that. He couldnât even imagine how theyâd look at him.
But to keep them safe? To keep their partners safe? Heâd do all of this in a heartbeat.
âYou quit threatening anyone else when weâre not in actual battle and itâs a deal.â Daisuke wondered if heâd have to get this in writing from the Kaiser, or if he was one of those types who would be offended that he wasnât trusted to keep his word.
Daisuke wasnât actually sure if he should trust Kaiser to keep his word, actual contract or not.
Kaiser pulled him closer and planted a very arousing kiss on Daisukeâs lips. His eyes narrowed after a few seconds, one hand brushing against Daisuke in a way that was far more warning than anything else. He moved his head back a bit.
âOur agreement includes kissing, Motomiya Daisuke. When I kiss you, you return it.â
Oh. Heâd never done that before. Heâd made such a point of not doing it, either, trying to tell the Kaiser his advances werenât wanted.
Only now it was different, wasnât it? Wanted or not, those advances were accepted. Which meant...wellâŠ
Daisuke tensed himself up and leaned forward into the kiss, hands moving down to nervously touch the Kaiserâs shoulders. Kaiserâs lips were thin and a bit cold, but Daisuke found himself warming within anyway.
Kaiser pushed him back onto the couch, then grasped one of Daisukeâs wrists and pulled his hand closer. âRemember what I did to you before?â Daisuke nodded, wondering where this was going. âNow youâre going to do it to me.â He caught Daisukeâs gaze quite firmly. âAnd if you do anything that I donât like on purpose, the bargain is off.â
Daisuke swallowed. He hoped heâd be a quick learner for this.
To Be Continued
