I thought that saying idiot and other variants was kinda ableist, and that’s why people moved on to other words?
Fool means one lacking in wisdom, idiot means one lacking in intelligence. If you view the second as being ableist as a kind of dig towards mentally disabled people I can kinda see that (Though personally I think it's like the difference between someone having a crazy idea and calling someone a schizophrenic), but foolishness is in no way ableist (Except for folk with executive function disorders I suppose but it's also an accurate description of huge percentages of other folk so that really doesn't stand up to examination) and I'm sure if you take a look around you can find other insults that don't reduce a person to being less than human.
