Zalazea
Although Zalazeans believe in the good god and the powers of the stars, the practise of magic is outlawed and associated with evil.
Here's how it works in Cyneric: youths found to have astral powers are given a scholarship by a nobleman, and when they finish their schooling, they are bound to work for that nobleman indefinitely. But 12-year old Colum is fast-tracked into working for the paranoid Grand Duke of Felonn. He has exactly one month to train in his power of phonopathy (the power of the Dove) and his partner is the Grand Duke's sheltered niece. Colum isn't bothered about losing out on school - at first. He's more concerned with the Master Aquatorsist and how he uses his astral power to control where floods and where doesn't. Three years ago, Colum's family was ravaged by an unprecedented flood. And the astrologers say another flood is due soon.

Suvara House

Suvara House is home to the Reglator of Zala Senat and his family. The title of Reglator has run through the Suvara family since the city was officially founded. The Reglator governs his city and through his political partner, the Royal Courtier, advises and reports to the King of Zalazea.
Cyneric is the most densely populated land in Andruste. It is ruled by a king, who resides in Kerby and takes advice from the dukes, who preside over their citadels. All aspects of life are dependent on magic, but magicians are often not free and have to work for a duke or lord.
