Being commissioned to illustrate an album cover is probably one of those moments in an artist's career when they do the Snoopy dance. ⁣ ⁣ @baylaart probably had a yippie kai aye reaction when @amandapalmer and Jason Webley asked her to illustrate both sides of the limited edition vinyl record for their @meow_wolf/Andrew Wyeth-inspired "House of Eternal Return" record (which was released in 2018). ⁣ ⁣ While the back of their album art focused on still life/landscape elements, Bayla brings a mysteriously gorgeous muse into *this* piece, which - dare we say - ups the intrigue and allure. That Andrew Wyeth had a face made for drawing. I do these drawings like water coloring. I draw lightly and build and build. We’re working on nailing down the visual style for the film version of Scarecrow and the Nightingale. This is a composite image of the scarecrow model over a photo taken at the Windsor ruins outside Port Gibson Mississippi. The look of the film is still evolving. As is usually the case I have many points of influence and inspiration for molding the look and story for a project. And they come from many mediums. In this case there’s 1)the illustrations of NC Wyeth 2) the paintings of his son Andrew Wyeth 3) the photography of @jeffersonhayman 4) the exquisite silhouette films of pioneer animation director Lotte Reiniger 5) director Elia Kazan’s beautiful and overlooked 1960 technicolor film Wild River 6) the illustrations of golden age illustrator Harry Rountree 7) the last images show the artwork and composite images that are starting to blend all these influences. We still have a ways to go. But I think we are getting close.
