obviously uther is awful and terrible, we know this from the start, but i'm rewatching for the millionth time. i had so many arguments prepared to make myself care about him. now i just got to the episode where he goes insane and hallucinates the children he murdered ❤️ so in my quest to have some empathy for uther i've remembered that gaius is almost equally as guilty and it's crazy that so many people treat him so wildly different from uther. he let this happen. maybe he helped a few people flee but ??? he's still part of people being murdered for magic

I can't believe generator rex openly dealt with oppression and discrimination in a completely understanding way that was powerful and important for kids (and everyone really) to hear and its STILL underrated

you know i’m not sure it’s a coincidence that maleficent had a female writer and dealt VERY explicitly with themes of gendered violence and the overthrow of oppressive power structures, and completely blew apart the structure of its original disney story in talking about those themes... whereas cinderella and now beauty and the beast were written by male screenwriters and both (seem to, in the case of batb) adhere very strongly to the structure of the original animated movies; and in the case of cinderella (batb remains to be seen) the movie utterly fails to deal in complex and thoughtful ways with what issues it DOES raise outside the basic fairy tale structure...?
