baran driving home from a shift, utterly exhausted. she’s not even supposed to be driving right now. her last seizure was two months ago. she can feel herself getting pulled into an unwanted slumber. but she’s two blocks from home. two blocks from jahan. two blocks from yolanda and trinity. but sleep prevails and her eyes drift shut. they open again to the sound of screaming and the feeling of the world shifting. she’s upside down, blood pooling beneath her at an alarming rate. she looks at her chest and there is a tree branch lodged deep within. she can feel sleep and the dark nothingness that comes with it tugging at her again. different this time, permanent. the last thing she sees as everything fades away is yolanda’s face, tears streaming down it and her mouth shouting baran’s name.
