and, like, what are we doing?? D’y’all know how many tornadoes we’ve had in my area in the last month?? Way more than usual! A lot more flooding in the past 8 or so years also. What are we doing.

(or Lena and Kara wake up together for the first time)

Lena was regaining her consciousness slowly. First thing she registered was a scent that could only be described as sweet and sunny. Second was warmth, followed shortly by a compelling feeling of security and comfort. As she woke up more, all this sensations became more and more substantial and finally took shape of a firm body relaxed next to her. Lena’s heart stopped for the moment at the sight and suddenly she was wide awake.

It took a few deep breaths for her still-drowsy brain to catch up but eventually it did and memories from the previous night flooded her.

Kara showing for their regular movie night with a dozen servings of potstickers. Easy as always conversation over the dinner. Cuddling, more talking and maybe a bit of making out on the couch as some movies played in the background.

Safety. Bliss. Happiness.

Her small “I don’t want you to go”. Kara’s shy and stuttered “I- I can stay the night if- if you want?”. More stuttering and blushing and panicked “No- not like that!”. And desperate “I meant…”. And helpless “I- I just want…”. Calm “Breathe, darling”. And reassuring “I know what you meant”. And firm “I want that too”.

Connection. Understanding. Hope.

An undeniable feeling of familiarity, despite going through the bedtime routine together for the very first time. Snuggling in. Heart swelling with affection and devotion.

Calmness. Serenity. Ease.

First completely nightmare-free and peaceful night in months.

And then, here Lena was: lying in her bed that for the first time didn’t seem too big, watching her girlfriend sleep soundly.

I love you. The sudden thought startled her and sent her heart racing. Apparently its frantic beating woke up super-hearing alien next to her, since Kara stirred and stretched, and finally opened her eyes. Her eyes found Lena’s face and a radiant smile immediately stretched her lips.  

“Morning” she mumbled quietly. “How d’you sleep?”

“Wonderfully”. Lena found herself smiling too.
