I continue to be confused and disappointed by how AEW is underutilising the relationship and history between Kris Statlander and Willow Nightingale, and it's got me thinking about the leadup to Willow v Thekla at Redemption. It was a super underbaked feud, because Willow and Thekla have basically no history. But โ๏ธ if you make it about Stat (and yeah I know bias or whatever but think about it), then suddenly, boom, you've got a lot to work with.
You don't even have to take Stat out of the Shida/Persephone stuff, just bring her up, have her haunt the narrative a little. Willow is angry at Thekla for what she did to Stat, and that just makes Thekla want to fight Willow all the more. Or Thekla brings up how she beat Stat twice as a way of taunting Willow! Acknowledge the Cosmic Babes of Wrath v Triangle of Madness stuff that happened last year, idk!
It would be so easy to write better women's storylines if AEW actually used the material they have.
(And if you're gonna skip over a bunch of character development and just have Statingale hug out of nowhere and be besties again, don't then throw that away and forget about it!)
