☕ Modern Adult AU

Dilara: Still an indiginous woman fighting for the future of her people and their land against post-colonial oppression and exploitation. She is not a thief, but has a degree in politics that she uses to work towards new policies protecting her native culture. Moved to the country’s capital to do just that and actually finds that she enjoys living in the city, as well as modern fashion and technology - though some of her relatives accuse her of losing her roots because of it. Deeply cares for her traditions though, and her little brother (who moved in with her to attend a better high school even though that means he’d have to leave his parent’s rural home).

Lux: Lives in a big city (tiny apartment) and works as a stripper and barkeeper at the local club - which doesn’t earn him much, but it makes him a whole lot happier than his master’s degree in finances and event management. He might warm up to the latter again at some point, but after his mother pushed him into it, he really is just sick of the whole business world. Mostly nocturnal. Enjoys going to concerts, practicing his fire dancing and having a different affair every night. Bit of a celebrity within the local club scene actually - he knows just about anybody, and if you need to find someone to help you with anything at all, he’s your man (or, you know, he knows someone who knows someone who can be your man).

Nylariel: Blonde, skinny, rich, and a little bit of a bitch. Has a PhD in theoretical astrophysics at the age of 26, a very rich and influential family tree and a big, expensive penthouse with an even bigger closet (probably somewhere in East Asia). Occasionally earns money by taking on modeling gigs (she has one of those “weird but beautiful” faces), but her true passion is her work and research. Locks herself up in her apartment for weeks sometimes to solve a theoretical problem and regularily publishes new scientific articles, attends conferences and debates. She’s vegetarian, owns two purebred cats and spends her free time either shopping, attending glamorous parties or hanging out at the observatory just for fun. Comes off as cool and abrasive because people who approach her for her looks and glam usually cannot match her outstanding intellect.

Minosh: A classic loser, but with a heart of gold. Barely finished High School, officially still lives with his parents though since he doesn’t want to bother them so he’s mostly couch surfing. Has a skateboard, a shock of blue dyed hair, piercings, and no direction in life. Works part-time jobs every now and then to keep himself afloat, otherwise spends all the money to support his parents or his little brother, who received a scholarship for an excellent university. He is kind of depressed because he cannot get anything done - since he still has an issue with authorities he barely manages to keep a real job for long. Doesn’t know where he belongs or what he should do. The city is eating him up. Would probably be way happier out in the countryside, but wouldn’t know what to do there either.

Abby: Cultural anthropologist with a special focus on the intersection of medicine and religion, her favourite topic being death rites and passing rituals. She’s travelling all over the world, living with different organisations in for a few months or years to further her research or work on different projects. Desperately wants to write a book, but interacting with others and discovering unfamiliar living spaces is far more interesting to her than sitting down to write. Even as a grown woman, she is excitable like a little kid when it comes to her field of research and will babble on for hours about it if you don’t stop her. Very adventurous, actually, you’ll never be bored in her company. Also collects her favourite cooking recipes from all the different places she visited in a little book.
