Strange Musical Instruments Never Seen Before - Man Invents Hundreds of...

It is called the anarchestra. And it. Is. So. COOL! I want to play all of these! 

Hats off to Anarchestra, the one-man band from Tuscon, Arizona whose homemade instruments have a touch of Harry Partch under-pinning a vaguely commercial sound. That said, these unique things produce deep soulful sounds and although each piece resonates like a catchy fast-lodged nugget, their perpetrator, Alex Ferris aka Andy Thurlow, is giving them away in album form for just a dollar via Bandcamp – Hear it all here – well, start with ‘Solipse’ and work your way through his gorgeous oeuvre.

This is what music should be philosophically. We learn instruments because we want to sound like a musician xyz we heard. And we constantly are tempted to be inspired and copy other ideas because, well, yeah, we listen to a lot of music - and sometimes its forced to fit into a certain societal norm. It’s from that copying and learning that we build our reservoir of new ideas. It’s only natural.

But this. This is like - I don't know what I'm playing. Ive never seen this instrument before. There is nobody to copy. I will master this instrument and jam with people and create new sounds. Its creation in its purest form. So awesome.

Not to mention, the anarchestra will be visited by soundtrack composers before you know it. Does Hans Zimmer know this place exists? His next album would be the BOMB if you let him anywhere near there. This is one step up from any new sound library in your DAW. I’m imagining some of these instruments with a synch-orchestra combo and my mind is blown. Ideas. Fountains of ideas.
