#an almost

I used to be one of those people who never believed in love. Romantic love that is. No, that’s not entirely true. I never doubted its existence. Only its sincerity. The intentions behind its verbalization. Why people made such a big deal out of it. Books. Movies. Poetry. This whole world of grand gestures and dramatic declarations. I never understood it. And now I do. So, fuck you, [REDACTED].

Nah. Let’s keep your name out of this, shall we.

Anyway. I wrote a poem about you.

And then a book.

Maybe someday there’ll be a movie too.

About us. A couple who never expressed our feelings through grand gestures or running through an airport, or a train station, or a bus terminal, or hell even a taxi rank. We did kiss in the rain once, I’ll give us that. And when we said those words to each other, it wasn’t dramatic or even memorable. It was just something that happened.

I wrote a poem about you. Poems. A great many poems. And some of them are in this book. I don’t know if you’ll read this. I don’t know if I want you to read this. And no, this isn’t a desperate cry for attention, nor is it vindictive pettiness. It’s just… it’s something I needed to do. Cliché but go figure.
