In Indiana, it is State Fair time! To honor the fair, we would like to share the story of this wonderful fair-related artifact. This homemade toy county fair dates from the mid-to-late 1930s. It was made by a man near Vincennes, Indiana, for a 7-year old boy who had polio. The little boy wanted badly to attend the county fair, but he couldn’t so his neighbor promised to bring the fair to him.
The model includes a carousel, a ferris wheel, farm machinery and domestic arts displays, a grandstand (peopled with bisque dolls), agriculture buildings, concession stands, midway games, ticket booths & a menagerie-everything you would expect from a fair! The furnishings, people, and animals are antique toys.
