Review:

You know those fics that are practically canon? Those fics where the writing or characterization rivals sequels or official novelizations? This is one of those fics.

The story is set during Iron Man between Rhodey finding Tony post Afghanistan and his return home. No villains attack, but at this moment the entire world is Tony’s antagonist. Military officials want to know exactly what happened in that cave. Tony is tired, twitchy, quiet and still needs to hold onto his secrets.

By necessity, Iron Man glosses over the logistical problems of Tony explaining how the hell he escaped three months of captivity. It’s a happy scene; he’s in Afghanistan, now he’s home, all ready to joke with Pepper and change the world. This story is about those uncomfortable in-between moments of recovery and responsibility. It’s real and alive and you need to read it.

“One of the things Rhodey can’t wrap his mind around is how disjointed these little dribbles of information are when they come out, until Tony has repeated them enough to integrate them smoothly into his tale… The halting way he’s been talking, as if he’s testing every word before he lets it go, is freaking Rhodey out almost as much as the light in his chest.”

Ok just because you [oof sorry this is a general whenever i try to find things abt p&p in this site you] think Darcy is a precious anxious nerd baby doesn’t mean he didn’t hold bad views, as if he only needed to learn to express himself better. Specially considering the complete position of power he’d hold legally over Elizabeth? and that is before you think about how rich he is. I think D was aware of this in relation to estate dependents but not when it came to a wife.

You can’t insult most aspects of a person quite by mistake. Moreover it’s possible he’d come to resent the things he liked about Elizabeth if he married her w/o the attitude adjustment.

And that scene is even worse for Elizabeth if you think about her parents marriage; like cliff notes

"no one left to yank on dean's leash"

oh it hurts to watch, i was just suffering it for dean at this point.

eh i've been tolerating the bad writing, idk why this one pissed me off more than others.

It’s always the one, and I don’t know how it works really, because it seems to be the most random one that does the extra pissing off. I stopped watching after 1015 and that was hardly the worst ep of the season. But somehow that was the one for me.
