Family, Race, Class and Triumph of Human Spirit Examined in QUEST @pbs #documentary #quest
For his debut documentary, QUEST, director Jonathan Olshefski spent nearly a decade chronicling the daily triumphs and tragedies of the Raineys, a working class African-American family in North Philadelphia. The father, Christopher “Quest” Rainey, is a local music producer and promoter who hosts a popular freestyle session for aspiring rappers in his home basement studio; the mother, Christine’a…

Bill Hader, Fred Armisen. Documentary Now ! from IFC.
Is this a blurry picture of a fisherman and a seal ?! NO ! Its John Slattery and Fred Armisen, in costume from the set of American Documentary. AND
Its IFC's American Documentary News Update Time !
According to Slattery's interview with Seth Meyers, the Iceland segment of American Documentary is based on one of the most famous documentary's of all time, Robert Flaherty's Nanook of the North, and Slattery plays the documentarian Flaherty (Fred is an unnamed North inhabitant).
Nanook of the North has a Criterion Edition release, but you can legally find the full release below if you're interested in getting a feel for the film (it-predates copyright). So Mad Men fans should look forward to IFC's American Documentary. No mention of Bill in this segment.

The above pic seems like a fan mockup - but I just thought I would do a news roundup on the IFC channel mockumentary Bill is writing/starring in:
Bill will write and star in the IFC show - he also said a URochester that the episodes would be mockumentary from quote "different eras."
Paste Magazine says that it will be a "“a curated series of half-hour documentaries and biopics, each about a completely fictitious subject” and include Seth Meyers and Fred Armisen
The show should come to air sometime in 2015 - but with only six episodes " spoofing politicians, artists, and more. Armisen and Hader will executive produce, as well as appearing in the show itself."
The Nerdist.com suggested it will be a kind of "This Is Spinal Tap for TV"
Deadline originally reported the IFC deal, and reminds us that Hader has already had two Emmy nominations, working on TV, for SNL !
The interrobang suggests, (perhaps seriously or not) that the first show might feature Fred's "Ian Rubbish and the Bizzaros"
Finally, the IFC press release itself says the series “will explore important political figures, influential artists, titans of industry, and iconic cultural movements,” which, again, are “all utterly fictional.” [Also IFC makes a Tim Calhoun joke at the end of the release;) ]
Fred Armisen on the Evolution of Portlandia, SNL, and American Accents
"I think in 10 or 20 years from now, we'll all look back at these sketch comedy shows that are coming out now, and we'll notice that they all had a look and a sound and rhythm. We'll go like, 'Remember that style from 2013-2014 that was like this?' We're too close to it now, but it's gonna happen. You'll even be able to make fun of it."
- Talking with Fred Armisen about Portlandia, American Documentary, and his new friend Rob Zombie
