Of course, they escaped off towards Sumeru. Why wouldn’t they?
Heaving a long, burdensome sigh, Kaeya leaned back in his desk as he pinched the bridge of his nose and furrowed his brows. Vile had handed him a map earlier in the day while he was making his rounds, notifying him of where his current quarry has up and run off to, and this particular band of treasure hoarders decided to book it towards the Nation of Wisdom. He had to hand it to them, they were just a little smarter for deciding to leave Mondstadt, compared to the other groups that thought they’d be safe if they stayed before Kaeya had taken them down.
Normally, the Cavalry Captain would leave this and let the other nation handle them whenever a target escapes the boundaries of Mondstadt. Yet, this was a precarious situation, as that particular group had stolen some supplies and property from the Ordo themselves. Incredibly stupid, really, but they somehow managed it due to an planned ambush on a pair of Knights delivering a cart towards the city. Their Knights’ numbers were thin, so there couldn’t have been more of them protecting the cart, thus leaving them open. Normally, this isn’t an issue—but those damn treasure hoarders made it one. The Ordo doesn’t have the funds to replace what they had lost.
And so, Kaeya decided to make a trip out towards Sumeru in search of those pesky thieves, after receiving clearance from the Acting Grand Master. She offered to send more people with him, but he assured her that he would be just fine on his own.
This isn’t his first time hunting treasure hoarders, after all, nor will it be his last.
There is one thing that does give Kaeya pause, however, and it’s the fact that he has absolutely no jurisdiction in Sumeru. So, of course, prior to his departure, he attempted to make last-minute arrangements to speak with someone that may give him proper clearance before he starts his hunt. He hates official business like this, but the last thing he wants to do is risk any public relations between the Nations.
Arriving in Sumeru, the Cavalry Captain wasted no time in making his way towards the Akademiya. He was hoping and praying to whichever Archon would hear him that his rather sudden request to seek an audience with anyone that could give him permission was accepted.
