E[race]ure is a beautiful, mosaic glass installation created for the 2016, Art in the Open Phila exhibition by artists, Amelia Carter and Chanel Chéri Hurst. The piece examines the displacement of communities of color due to development with a specific focus on one of Phila's first black neighborhoods. The 7th Ward in South Philly was home to many families that migrated to Phila from the South, as part of the Great Migration from the 1920s through the 1960s. This art installation was on display from May 13, 2016 - May15, 2016 from 10AM-6PM on the Schuylkill River Banks. Philadelphia Jazz Project partnered with Carter & Hurst to celebrate the Great Migration by presenting saxophonist Sam Reed & trumpeter Will Wright in performance at the site of the installation, on the Schuylkill River Banks on Sunday afternoon May 15th. Sam Reed is also the featured musical guest of PJP's next First Friday Rent Party, which celebrates the Great Migration journeys of folks from South Carolina.
