Wore in ode to AboGogo BamaSwazi: I wore this cloth to honour the Swazi wives my ancestors,the hlubi kings Bhungane Mthimkhulu would marry. The gatekeepers of spirit, givers of life and healers of my bloodline. Often the modern black woman can find herself disconnected from heritage because she doesnt see her place in it. A history documented in English and therefore through a patriarchal lense forgets to put emphasis on the likes of Nandi Zulu who were war tacticians just as much as the sons they begot. I love my land because it is the land my forefathers worked and lived on. This piece of land symbolises who I am as an African. My father, his father and fathers before. Ekhaya means the world to me. So no matter where I am in the world this is my home, everywhere else out of Africa will be temporary.
