The goal of the day was to track down his past self, somehow reconcile with him (how did you reconcile with a part of yourself that you didn't know, because he came from a moment in time you don't remember?), and re-merge with him. This place. This fucking island! How could it just--do this to people?! Lorene didn't want to think about it. He didn't. Nudging that train of thought too much brought up memories of white walls and white cot sheets and white exam tables and white scrubs--
--the exact thing his past self was wearing.
Gods, he didn't want to think about any of this. Lorene had gotten along perfectly fine for years just putting all of that shit out of his mind. He didn't think about the CIA laboratory anymore. Didn't think about why his soul was powered by the amulet around his neck, the piece of the soul of the Star Goddess Polaris. He didn't think about the possible repercussions of an Elven soul drawing life from a goddess, instead of from the flow of the Gaia-force, like all other Elves did. He didn't think about what his father had implied, about what Overchanneling might look like for him. He didn't think about what Elrohir had implied, about his potential lifespan--
Nope. He didn't think about any of that.
Because how the hell else was he supposed to stay sane? Putting all of that shit out of his mind was what had gotten him through the Liash Conflict in one piece. He couldn't think about the shape of his soul or the memory of the laboratory with Liash Zealots waving bio-synth hand-cannons in his face. The crazy bastards wanted him dead just for being an Elf, to say nothing of the fact that he had majyk. Who started an entire cult based on hatred of majyk and majyk kindreds, anyway?? No one sane, that was who! Lorene had not had the energy to dedicate any brainspace to his own past with that bullshit on his plate.
And then the Liash war had ended, and he had gone home. Home! With all of its myriad expectations and obligations. Nope. Who had time to think about their past? Not this Prince! And that was just the way Lorene liked it. How he wanted to keep it, thank you very much--
Lorene had been so focused on not thinking about it that he ran straight onto the skinny blond man before he realized it. He backed up a few steps and immediately began apologizing.
"I'm so sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going. I didn't hit you too hard, did I? Busy day and all--hah! Nothing is ever boring on this island, is it...?"
"...Say...are you...doing alright, sir?"
