The word otherkin has three definitions:
The old term for alter/nonhumans
The term that groups together identities where one involuntarily identifies as someone or something.
A being who involuntarily identifies as an imaginary creature usually on the non-physical plane (although rarer, physical otherkins do exist)
The most used and correct definition is otherkin in the sense of unintentionally identifying as an imaginary creature, as the first definition is almost no longer used and the second can be replaced by "kin identity" to avoid confusion.
A otherlink is a being who voluntarily identifies as someone or something for some reason non physicaly.
Not counting the old definition of otherkin, the main difference between otherkinty and otherlinkty is that otherkin identity is involuntary and otherlink identity is voluntary :3
Despite this difference, both identities are equally valid and true, of course!
Extra info :
There are several subcategories of otherlinks, here are some of them:
A copinglink choose to identify as something or someone to cope with a difficult time in one's life.
A funlink chooses to identify as something or someone for fun.
A paroulink chooses to identify as something or someone because of a disconnection from humanity.
The term otherkin can be written/said otherkind!
