The fire that reflects in Yuki’s eyes is inexplicably more intense than the undulating flames, as if confining them in his vacuous stare made it even more fierce. He came here to pick Kenta up, receiving his text without so much as asking a reason why. It didn’t matter, the moment Kenta told him he needed him Yuki would come without question. There wasn’t the need for words between them but he lowers to crouch beside him all the same. They’re a questionable pair sitting on the grass as the house before them crackles and collapses spitting flurries of glinting embers into the crisp night air.
“ I’ll take care of it.” He said, finally, leaning so their knees brushed together, the side of his head resting against Kenta’s shoulder. Yuki’s voice might not give much away but part of him almost wished he had been here when the fire started, pouring the gasoline on those creaky floorboards and relishing the way it seared against his senses. “ You don’t have to do this alone.”

too late. sent the text too late.
he's not there, not really there — wide, fiery hues appearing to dance themselves with the reflection of the roaring flames that greedily lick at the dark sky, all while engulfing the small dwelling. no one had been inside, an old, abandoned home with a rotting ceiling that had already started to collapse in. not that it mattered to him. occupied or not, when the urge got too strong, the Magma executive never stopped.
until he was done. until he could finally relax and watch the blaze, listen as the dry, creaking material caught faster and burned hotter than any other ‘box’ of flammable material on the block — just as he had imagined each time while passing the dilapidated structure in the last month or so.
seated casually in the grass, forearms propped up by slightly lifted knees, Kenta hardly registers when his fellow executive arrives to sit beside him, nonetheless the passage of time between then and when he feels the light brush against his knee, followed by the weight on his shoulder.
he does not flinch, but he doesn't remove a transfixed gaze from the popping flames either, nor lean into the touch. however, while barely noticeable, Kenta does release a slow breath, one that allows muscles to release tension even a fraction more.
slowly, eyelids blink.
❝ i think, ❞ a distant voice breaks through heat-cracked lips. ❝ i just need a cold shower. ❞
he knows, Yuki. isn't that why he texted at all?
