The platinum version/the one we see in TRR is how we see him as he is presented most often in recent appearance. Which is, detached and unhappy. miserable and angry but with enough tact over it that he doesn't seem like he's flying off the handle or prone to doing so.

I like to think of diamond and pearl cyrus specifically as having more problems with his anger, partially because .... the end of that game.... wasn't even a proper ending to his story. He just walked off after failing once, saying he'll be back to do it again later (and then he and mars go crazy at the battle tower)

So he never achieved his dream, like in TRR, and he never managed to change anything at all like in platinum. He just had a very annoying setback.

I like to combine the ideas for Beta-leak Cyrus with a hypothetical D/P postgame cyrus storyline where he falls back to his initial concept for rewriting the world, which he only navigated away from in the first place because it came with a lot of risks. (that being: hooking himself up to a machine and harvesting the power of palkia/dialga to rewrite time and space 'on his own')

And, finally, the AU for Cyrus I really like but never got around to doing much with..... Ultra Space Cyrus. Where in Diamond and Pearl, Cyrus manages to get closer to achieving his dream.... but in doing so, a tear between dimensions as the world is being destroyed flings him somewhere else (yknow, in ultra space.)

it really resonated with me, and I feel like it executed everything it set out to do. It understood both the intrigue of the source material (and other "liminal spaces" and "uncanny valley" stuff) and how to make something both vague and cohesive, which i think is very good for a psychological horror.

Also, I felt like it paid homage to that which inspired it without being referential or ironic or cheeky at all which is SUCH a breath of fresh air for modern movies. it is truly 100% all its own thing.

Also loved the camera work and how it was so deliberate in making you feel how it wants you to feel.

Camera pan to Cyllene, rigid as stone with her shoulders practically up to her ears. She had "Beaugene" fixed with a wary glare, arm half-raised to command her Abra to do what it does best, but Dia got in the way before any command could be made.

She relaxed some, now that she knew the Bug-type couldn't make a (remarkably slow) beeline for her, but it took her an extra moment before the young recruit's argument got through to her.

When it did, her eyes narrowed.

Clearing her throat, and strategically stepping back to the wall behind her, she gives the young man a wide berth as she makes her way around him to the doorway she'd initially been blocked-off from by the offending creature.

"Ahem. If it is yours, it would be wise to confine it to it's capsule when inside buildings. You never know what trouble it could cause."

It was Daedra, Captain Cyllene, a Security Corps member and two Survey Corps members that stood on the grassy hill, looking outward. Across the rolling fields, nested at the barrier of a rising treeline, was a space-time distortion that Cyllene had become familiar with the tells of... but this one was different. Larger than she'd seen before; and she couldn't be sure what Daedra might've seen in her years here, but she wanted to bet that it was larger than anything she'd seen, too.

And they were close. The nervous sensation in the skin they'd felt when they pressed on must've been the early warning signs of such an occurrence about to happen, but because Cyllene rarely left her post in Jubilife she'd not given the thing its proper berth.

The distortion was still spiralling-out from its centre point, slowing as it reached its maximum size but delivering with it the silhouettes of creatures Cyllene could not recognise.

Before moving, or even responding to Daedra's rationality, Cyllene cast her eyes to the far-off image of Mount Coronet. She squinted, attempting to focus on the spiraling rift above its peak, and it was uncertain if she found what she was looking for with the way she clicked her teeth in disdain.

"That is our only safe path through the forest. We will have to go around, or go through..."

The Galaxy Expedition team members who so far had done well keeping their nerve balked at the Captain's suggestion.

"Captain Cyllene! We couldn't possibly go through! And with the distortion here, it's likely the native Pokémon surrounding it will be agitated as well!"

She didn't respond, placing her fingers against her chin thoughtfully. The Security Corps member, hoping to get across the Survey Corps member's message, politely spoke up:

"Perhaps we should call the mission off, Captain. We can call for the foreigner's help another day- it isn't worth risking your safety."

Cyllene did cast a glance his way, eventually offering him some solace in the form of a small nod to show he heard him. Instead of heeding his advice, however, she looked to Daedra.

"I'd like to get through to the Crimson Mirelands before the end of the week. We have important negotiations to get through, as you know." And Adaman was rather adamant on speaking to one of the people in charge of the Galaxy team, rather than the countless messengers that'd been sent before.

"-- You've lived out here some time. Perhaps you can help us find our way through the forest efficiently."

It wasn't exactly a question, but a command. She gestured with an open hand in the direction they were meant to be going, too near the distortion for comfort, but stubbornly refusing to do anything else.
