Look, if you're gnostic about something, you know something. If you're agnostic about something, you don't know something. If you're a theist, that means you believe in at least one god. If you're an atheist, that means you don't believe in at least one god. Religions are about belief, not knowledge. "Agnostic" is not a belief and therefore certainly not a religion. If you're not convinced that a particular god exists, then you are atheist about at least that god, not agnostic about it. But of course we can't use that other "a" word in an American-made game because people would lose their freaking minds. *sigh*

So this is how the cross stitch is going. Im working through a page of pattern at a time just because I can't be doing with flipping back and forth.
So far im pleased although a lot of the white details have come out a lot more beige than i was anticipating. I'm actually quite liking it so far, fortunately the water colour effect lends itself to a bit of nuance in the colour. I am NOT looking forward to the sky above Thor but I am looking forward to the effect when it's finished.
I have been working for hours at a time on this, my mental health is in an absolutely shocking state at the moment and this is literally the only thing that is helping. My GP actually went as far as declaring that he was prescribing cross stitch!
Fuck this pandemic, fuck the ignorance of some people and fuck off to the longest January i have ever experienced in my entire life.
When you're trying to sob about Spies Are Forever to your parents but you can't even get to the real, tragic beauty of the story cause they're homophobic so you say Owen is female and it doesn't hit as hard. You can't describe Curt's desperation when he says "But what about our secret?" And when Owen says "You're a caveman, and I've just invented fire." That line. Is really very powerful. You can see the look on Curt's face when, in that moment, he knows the man he loved is truly gone. And the nonchalance, the /arrogance/ that Joey has in that line, the soft finality of "and I've invented fire". That rends my heart. You can't convey the emotion, the tense hilarity, of "Doing This", and how relieved Curt must feel when Tatiana agrees to just be friends. The story can't be told as it deserves to be, because even though their relationship isn't flaunted throughout the whole show, it really matters to the characters and the world they're in. Which is why I will forever love this musical (and TCB. Gosh they're such strong allies and I LOVE THEM). And also why I lament the fact that some people will never understand the tragic, hilarious beauty of this musical.

…and the award for Most Inconsistent Characterization Thus Far goes to… Suzumori Yukina!!
Raised to be the princess’s guardian, she renounces her identity as a female in favor of referring to herself as chieftain of her clan (since she believes the two to be mutually exclusive), yet at the same time gets horribly offended whenever anyone comments on her gender one way or the other. She is known to be close with the Princess, to the point of having her makeup done every so often, yet apparently has never absorbed even the slightest idea of how any aspect of femininity works, despite coveting the knowledge. Incredibly suspicious yet also ridiculously gullible, she has a miraculous ability to identify joking/sarcastic tones in her narrative, yet evidently has no idea how to react to—let alone engage in—more lighthearted interactions.
…Not only that, but she is said to have studied a wide range of topics extensively through books, yet has no idea how basically anything works in practice. She’s so naïve she’s practically useless, and she doesn’t have an excuse. And let’s not forget that although she questions everything and second-guesses herself and doubts everyone around her, she never asks the right fucking questions. She’s the most unconditionally loyal retainer ever. It’s laughably easy to manipulate her, and I get that they’re going for personality development and character flaws, but am I really expected to believe they’d let her live seventeen years in this world—ten as clan chief—without correcting any of those incredibly fatal flaws at all? Why do the elders think it’s so damn important to shelter her when she’s a.) on par with them status-wise, and b.) extremely crucial to protecting the system as it is? I get that I’ve barely dipped into the game at all since I won’t stop posting about it instead of playing it, and I expect a lot of this will be explained or developed later, but it’s still an incredibly dissatisfying foundation.
It’s clear that they wanted to portray a Strong Female Character™, perhaps as a direct foil to Chizuru, but this is not how you do that. You simply cannot include that many contradicting traits in any one character. It doesn’t work, and it certainly doesn’t make them sympathetic. Chizuru is how you portray naiveté without turning it into stupidity. Saito or Yamazaki is how you portray duty-centricity without turning it into narrow-mindedness. They have great examples from the game they’re butchering. They have no right to fuck it up like this.
…Yeah, so it’s been awhile since I’ve genuinely disliked a narrator-protagonist this much.
