honestly the really harmful part about the whole “oh but you don’t look like you’re depressed” or any other kind of rhetoric about how one doesn’t appear mentally ill isn’t only that there isn’t a Way To Look Mentally Ill, but that it puts this idea of what it means to be mentally ill. like if im not exhibiting all the textbook, well known signs of depression it’s like... well maybe i’m just faking it. probably. all because i don’t seem it or because im not doing certain things that people associate with depression (or any other illness)
