I only follow hockey when we are in the playoffs and I only follow other Canadian teams depending on whether 1. I have friends who are fans of them that I need to emotionally support through the exchange of memes or 2. We Are In An Unprecedented International Falling Out Trade War Time 3. I happen to see the Jets pull off a stunt like that may the 4th miracle

(I am also not in Edmonton so I need to stay in touch - last year I could keep track of when we were winning by listening to cheers outside. This year I am hoping we make it to the finals so I can still get my Connor McDoughnut when I get home next month)

8. What introduced you into pet keeping?

Oh gosh, there’s a couple answers for this, I guess. My family had pets when I was very little, starting with my sister’s two budgies. They were NOT cared for well at all, unfortunately. But my first experience of doing pet care was cleaning their cage on weekends. And then helping out with the family cat we got after that, and then the dog.

My first pet of my own was a betta fish. Again, first one didn’t have great care - 1g bowl, no heat, fed only pellets. But I loved him and I learned to provide better with each of my next two betta fish. Second one started with a 5g tank and moved to a 10g one, and the third one got the 10g with heat and better food.

My special interest in pet care really started with my hedgehog Lily, when I was 18. I didn’t do enough research on care before getting her, but started catching up fast 6 months later when I found the Hedgehog Central forums. Thus began the obsession, and since then, I’ve gathered as much information as I could on animal care, nutrition, enrichment, etc. I’ve never wanted to make the same mistake of being unprepared for a new pet like I did with her & my betta fish.

9. How old were you when you got your first pet?

I believe I got my first betta fish when I was in 8th or 9th grade? So around 13-14 years old. We got our family cat when I was 8 or so, and the dog when I was 10, I think.

11. Have you recently gotten into an argument with someone over pet care?

Lmao, the answer to this at literally any point in time is always going to be “yes”! Most recent has probably been the outdoor cat arguments, I think. Although what happens far more often is I rage at friends/partners about people being awful at animals or doing irresponsible things....and then I answer the actual person in question politely/helpfully as I can manage, to try to help the animal. That’s what my pattern always was on the hedgehog forum when I was active there. (But this doesn’t usually work with outdoor cat arguments because outdoor cat advocates are infuriating as hell, tbh)
